  3. Use 20lb tank instead of 40lb just for this winter?

    Can I use 20lb propane tanks for this winter to run it instead of the 40lb recommended? I'm going to run a gas line across my yard and into my shop in the spring to run it off of my three - 100lb tanks but for this winter could I use 20lb tanks with no issues? Thanks in advance

    1. A 20 lb. propane tank can be used to run this heater.

    2. Thank you for your inquiry. Yes you can. A 40,000 BTU unit will burn 1.853 pounds of propane per hour, so be mindful that the tank will be empty quicker compared to a 40 pound tank or 100 pound tank.

    1. This heater can only run on a 1/2 psi system. It will need to be regulated down.

  5. How does the thermostat work?

    If there is no electricity required how does the thermostat work? Is it mounted on the heater and you have to climb up and down a ladder to turn it on and off? Or is the thermostat mounted on the wall requiring electricity?

    1. The thermostat does not require electricity. you mount it on a wall. After you start the heater you turn the knob to on. The thermostat controls it then. I leave it on and just turn the thermostat to off when I'm not using it. The flame just goes to almost pilot then. So I use a ladder twice a year. Fall to start it and spring to turn it off. I would recommend this heater for over work areas in garages and pole buildings.
      I plan on buying more.

    2. The thermostat works using the powerpile on the gas valve. The thermostat can be mounted anywhere near the unit and can be on a wall. No electricity is required. A power pile is a thermocouple that produces power. This electrical output from the thermocouple is enough to operate the gas valve and thermostat without using an outside power source.

  6. does this unit auto light and what is the power source?

    1. This does not auto light. It stays on a "Pilot Like" setting in the off setting and turns up when you turn up thermostat.

    2. This does not have an auto light option. The heater must be lit manually. Once the pilot is lit, the unit will turn on or off based on the thermostat. The power source is from the powerpile generator on the gas valve.

    1. no, this heater is not vented

    2. You may use natural ventilation. Where natural ventilation is provided for the exhaust, (preferably peak of the roof) and the areas of opening shall not be less than 300 square inches for every 1000,000 BTU input.

  8. would this be suitable for a 36'x75'x12' shop if i'm only trying to keep one side warm?

    1. If your insulated the answer is yes but it will take a little while if it's turned on only when needed. If your not insulated I would say no only because this is not forced air (a fan). I would upgrade to the 60,000btu to be safe. Hope this helps.

  9. Can I hook this heater to my already existing Natural Gas line the is available on my patio?

    1. The heater is not designed to be used with natural gas.
