There is a charge coil on this engine that provides battery charging when the engine is running. You should never connect any other devices or loads as the battery powers the starter only. The on-board charging system will keep a good battery adequately charged. Honda does not offer any type of external alternator for any Honda engine and would never advise to add any non Honda parts to the engine.

With the Honda GX270 engine with electric start...
..does it charge the 12v 18 amp battery used to power the electric start and can the battery be used to operate other 12v items such as the pump on your 26 gallon sprayer? Or will the battery need to be charged using a battery tender?
Or can an alternator be introduced to charge the battery? If so, do you have an alternator for this engine?-

Newbie68: There is a charge coil on this engine that provides battery charging when the engine is running. Honda does not recommend connecting any other devices or loads to the battery, as the output of the coil may damage the device. The battery is there to power the starter, and the power from the on-board system is there just to charge the battery, and is not rated to provide power to other devices. Generally, the on-board coil/charging system will keep a good battery charged just fine, but if the battery is marginal or not in good condition, it may need to be connected to an external maintainer, monitor or charger. Honda does not offer any type of external or accessory alternator for any Honda engine. Honda does not recommend mounting/attaching any non-Honda parts or accessories (like an alternator) to this or any other Honda engine. -Robert@Honda

What is the simplest and best way to add oil and drain the oil. It is very difficult to add oil.

To add oil, remove the filler cap or dipstick and pour the oil in slowly. Check the level often as you fill. The engine is properly filled when the oil reaches the edge of the fill opening or the upper mark on the dipstick.

the gas motors say ccw and the hyd pumps say cw rotation how does that work

The shaft rotation is evaluated from the perspective of the shaft pointing at you. Therefore, an engine with a counter-clockwise (CCW) shaft rotation will be turning the hydraulic pump shaft clockwise (CW) when directly coupled.
