MIG & Flux Welders
MIG welding is just one of several welding processes and is the easiest to learn. It also offers versatility and can be used on a variety of metal thicknesses. MIG welders work with the use of a solid wire welding electrode. The wire itself is the filler metal and is housed on a spool that is automatically fed at the speed selected by the user. An electrical current between the base and filler metals joins them together. The MIG welding process creates extremely clean, strong welds.
MIG welders can also be used for the flux-core welding process, which is also wire-fed. Flux-core welding is most efficient for use outdoors as the flux-cored wire shields the arc from contamination such as dirt or wind. Due to arc shielding, welding speed, and portability, flux-cored welding is the preferred process for construction purposes. MIG welders are capable of welding metals as thin as 26 gauge, and are suited for use on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum alloys.
Northern Tool + Equipment offers an array of MIG wire welders to suit the needs of both home hobbyists and professionals. Select from top brands including Lincoln Electric, Firepower, and ESAB, among others. REMINDER: Always wear the appropriate protective welding gear when operating a MIG welder.
