  3. What type of hydraulic fluid should I use?

    I noticed that the release foot-pedal won't work so I assume that it needs hydraulic fluid. I got the manual and it tells me how to add fluid but not which viscosity or which type.

    1. Just go to any hardware store or dept store you can buy actual hydraulic jack oil.

    2. The Wel-Bilt Foot-Operated Vertical Log Splitter requires hydraulic jack oil. The unit itself will arrive filled with jack oil, but may occasionally require additional oil.

  4. What is the ram stroke?

    How long is the ram travel (stroke) on the jack?

    1. The stroke on this Wel-Bilt log splitter is between 6-8".

    2. My unit is over at my off-grid property, and I'm not there at the moment. I haven't used it for a while (had to split almost three honest cords...so I borrowed a friend's motorized splitter), but as I recall, the stroke was about 12 inches, and with the wide wedge, that is usually enough, but a few times I had to lower the ram-platform, then lower the wedge a few inches (with wood stuck on it), and then pump the ram up again.

    1. We would not recommend modifying the Vertical Foot-Operated Log Splitter to work with a pneumatic jack.

  6. what is the height of splitter wedge & angle ?

    1. It has 7 heights that are as follows 11 3/4", 13 3/4", 15 3/4", 17 5/8", 19 5/8", 20 5/8" and 23 1/2". There is a return spring for bottle jack return and the bottle jack is 8" L x 4 3/4" W x 9 7/16" H fully retracted and 15 5/8" fully extended.
