Product Summary

The RDS Rectangular Transfer Fuel Tank is designed for transferring diesel fuel, gasoline or aviation fuel from the bed of a pickup to automobiles, heavy equipment, boats, 4-wheelers, generators or anything else requiring fuel that you may have. Enjoy the convenience of a gas station that goes where you go. DOT approved aluminum fuel tanks do not rust, which protects fuel from contamination. The tank can also be used as an auxiliary unit to provide additional capacity for a diesel factory tank with the use of an RDS diesel install kit (Item#s 3490901, 3490902 and 43748, sold separately). Diesel install kits will work with any RDS tank with a drain fitting. Auxiliary tank function is for use with diesel fuel only and is not for use with gasoline, which cannot be gravity-fed. It is the user's responsibility to comply with local, state and federal requirements pertaining to safe transportation, loading and discharging tank contents.

  1. What is the best cap for this tank to use it as a big vent for a transfer pump on it ?

    1. The item number 98688 (model 013690) is a standard lockable fuel cap that is a direct replacement. You can add a vented cap item number 109645 (model FRTCB).

  2. Can the 55 gallon RDS aluminum transfer fuel tank be used as a below deck boat fuel tank? Does it have a pick up tube and can a fuel sender be easily dropped in?

    1. The RDS 71110 transfer tank is not rated for marine use and lacks a pickup tube or sender port.

  4. Can you switch location for the pump and fill cap?

    1. There is not an option to change the location of the pump. The pump connection is a reinforced 2" bung. Modifications to the tank will void the manufacturer's warranty.

  5. Tank dimensions, does it come with transfer pump gas suitable?

    1. The dimensions on the tank are 36.5" L x 22" W x 16.5" H. The overall length including the tabs will be 38.5". The tank is DOT approved to transport diesel, gasoline and aviation fuel.

  6. Can you use a transfer pump

    1. A manual or 12 volt transfer pump is able to be added to the tank using the 2" female pipe thread coupling.

  7. Can the gauge be swapped with the other opening to be on the same side as the fill cap?

    1. It would not be recommended for the gauge to be swapped so that it is on the same side of the fill cap as the unit is DOT approved for the particular set up.

    1. The fuel line needed for the overflow check valve would be a 5/16" hose barb fitting.

    1. The GPI #360581 is compatible.

  10. Does the tank have a suction tube inside, or is it gravity feed out the bottom

    1. The pump will come with a pick up tube, 2" bung for adapting a pump or can be used for gravity feed.
