I have a Aux. Tank in my trk with a inline 12 volt ball valve in the filler hose. When you fill the Aux Tank have it turned off so it doesnt fill your trk tank at the same time. As your tank runs down switch the ball valve on allowing the fuel to slowly fill you vehicle. Works great and the ball valve is fairly simple to install.

What keeps it from overfilling the truck fuel tank?

It has a unique yet simple float valve so when your main tank is full it blocks the flow of fuel. It works very good and I have experienced no problems with overfilling or leaks.

The secret is in the 90 degree fitting screwed into the larger barbed sleeve. Looking into the sleeve you can see that the bottom of the fitting is neatly crimped. Shaking it, you can hear a rattle. Using a small mirror you can see a small ball inside. When the level of the fuel rises in the stock tank, the ball floats up and blocks the flow of fuel into the stock tank. When the fuel in the stock tank drops, the ball falls and fuel flows in. It 's important to install the sleeve as close to horizontal as possible so the ball seats evenly
It's similar in function to the ball (or hollow cylinder in a cage) inside a wet vac that blocks suction when the water rises too high

You first would need to determine which type of fuel system your truck has, a pressurized or vented system. This kit has a rollover valve that works automatically with a pressurized fuel system. Most 2008 trucks had vented fuel systems which would require you use the manual fuel cutoff.

What is the overall lenght of the barbed fitting?
I want to be sure that I have enough clearance between the ednge of fuel tank and truck bed to allow for the barbed fitting and 3/8" hose that will be connected to it.

I had plenty of room for the fitting. I drilled straight through the side wall and looped it right into the adapter. My install on a 2004 Chevy Silverado

can you leave the valve open all the time so it fills ?
or do you need to open and close it manualy?

I purchased this kit and installed it on my 2008 GMC. It works well and does not overfill my tank. It keeps it topped up until all the fuel is used. I do not have to shut the supplied valve off as it does not over fill the tank. If I was leaving my truck parked for an extended time, I would probably close the valve. I have left it open for two weeks while the truck was sitting in my garage and both tanks were full with no spilling or overflow during that two week period of idleness. I am very happy with this kit and give it five stars. It was easy to install with a hole cut in the bed of the truck and cutting the fuel filler hose to install the supplied parts.

If your truck has a pressurized system then the kit has a rollover valve that works automatically. Most 2008 trucks had vented fuel systems. If you have this type you would need to use the manual fuel cutoff. You will need to know which fuel system your truck has.

What size ore the fittings, hose?

Machere· 14 years ago
You specify what truck you are putting it on and they suppy the correct size fitting for your truck and year model. My kit came in for my 2008 GMC and my neighbor got one for his 2009 Dodge 450 and both kits fit fine.

Fuel tank outlet
Does the transfer tank have to have a bottom outlet?
The tank I have was designed for a electric fuel pump with a 3/8th top mounted fitting.Larry
-
CHSSnowmakers· 15 years ago
It uses gravity and you would have to have a suction for it to work if the outlet is on top.

Yes, this diesel install kit requires your tank to have a bottom outlet because it is a gravity feed type of application.

does the fuel outflow from the auxillary tank have space from the intake port on the inside above the bottom of the tank to avoid picking up gunk?
1 answer-
ProductExpert6· 5 years ago
The diesel kit is designed that it is drawing 1/2" from the bottom of the tank, so it do does not pick up anything from the bottom of the tank.
