  1. Is this weatherproof?

    Do you need to have a cover on this while set up to the tractor running your home, or is it alright to for it to be in the elements while using? It would, of course, be properly stored in the dry while not in use.......

    1. Choose a location where the generator will not be exposed to rain, snow or direct sunlight. You may operate the generator under an outdoor, canopy-like structure of heat-resistant material that is open on all sides. Make sure that all parts of canopy are at least 7’ from generator and at an adequate safe clearance from hot tractor exhaust. Allow for adequate clearance above generator so that heat from generator does not build up.

    2. Cover it from the rain and snow while in use, but allow sufficient air circulation.

    3. I built a large cover to place over my PTO generator with room for air to move, but only cover the generator when the weather may change while it is hooked up. It is best to leave it uncovered for air circulation, but if covered, just make certain there is vents installed for air circulation to keep it cool when under power. a box open on one end for the PTO and a vent on the other end is sufficient but the box should at least have a 3" air space on the sides and top for air circulation to keep the windings from getting too hot under load.

  2. will this generator work with a higher rpm pto? if not, do you sell one that will operate at higher rpms?

    1. Definitely not at your tractor's rated PTO speed! If your tractor is 100 HP or more, you could run it with the 1,000 RPM PTO and the engine speed reduced to just over half the rated PTO speed. Be sure your high-speed PTO of your tractor can handle enough torque to produce 48 horsepower at 540 RPM required for the NorthStar unit. About your only other option would be using the NorthStar 10,000 watt generator head driven by a toothed belt pulley system to increase your PTO speed of 1,000 RPM to 3,600 RPM, but the high-HP belt, pulleys, frame and bearings will be expensive, not to mention the fabrication labor.

    2. This NorthStar PTO Generator has a required PTO RPM of 540 and will not operate at a higher RPM.

  3. Do you sell the PTO shaft for this generator?

    1. This generator uses a 1-3/8", 6-spline input shaft. Please refer to item 31925 for a compatible PTO shaft.

  4. What is the duty cycle rating? And how long can it be ran? As in a back generator for my house?

    1. This generator is rated for continuous use. The only limitation is the need to stop and refuel the tractor it is connected to.

  5. I have an older model generator like this 27,500 generator. I was recently using it to run a 220 welder when I believe from the smell it slipped a cluch. My question is does it have clutches and can they be replced?

    1. This generator is equipped with a gearbox, but there is no clutch.

  6. What type of plug goes into the big outlet?

    1. The large straight blade receptacle on the front is a NEMA 14-60R, which requires a 14-60P plug.

  7. does it come with the trailer?

    1. This generator does not include the trailer. This unit should be mounted to a reinforced concrete slab or a PTO trailer supplied by the user.

    1. This generator does not include the PTO drive line. This PTO generator has an industry standard 1-3/8", 6-spline input shaft.

  9. Currently have a 30 horse tractor would like to buy a generator rated for 40 horse. Would my tractor run this unit as it is now I plan to get a 40 horse later on my question is would this produce power to the 30 horse rating?

    1. This generator is recommended for use with 48 HP at the PTO. Using a 30 HP tractor would allow around 18,000 watts without exceeding the HP rating of your tractor. To utilize the full 24,000 watts a minimum of 40 HP would be required.
