    1. The cord would come with a NEMA L14-30R on one end and the L14-30P plug on the other end. It is a 4 prong locking plug.

    I have a portable generator and a transfer switch in the home for emergency electric service. Can I run 2 of these cords together for a total distance from the generator to house of 80 feet? Or, would there be too much current drop?

    1. You can run two of these 40 foot cords for a total of 80 feet between the generator and your house. While there always is some current drop when using extension cords, the drop should not be very much at this distance.

  6. My generator has a L14-20 output, will this cord fit?

    1. Your generator would require a 20 amp generator cord which fits your L14-20 output. Northern does a carry the correct cord in the same 40 foot size. See item below.

  7. Can your run 2 seperate 30A lines through this?

    Since you have (4) prongs, does that mean I can run (2) seperate 30A circuits though this?

    1. It is not possible to run two separate 30 amp lines through this cord.

  8. Can I connect two of the 40 ft cords together, this will be enough to reach my transfer switch

    I have the generator secure in a small well vented shed and don't want to move it. I want to install the transfer switch and that would be about 70 ft away from the generator. Can I put the two 40ft cords together?

    1. On this Reliance Generator Power Cord, two can be connected together, however it is not recommended. A single cord for the length need would be better. Northern Tool does not offer longer cords but we do carry the end connectors.

  9. 30Amp and 40ft long cord, what gauge wire is in this cord? 10 or 8

    Longer cords like this add circuit resistance and cause heating and current losses. i would prefer 8 gauge wire in an extension cord of this length. (240V / 30 Amp)
