Mr. Heater Fuel Filter for Buddy Heaters, Model# F273699

Screws into the heater, heater hose screws into the filter.

It screws in where the propane canister would fit.

You screw it on just as if you were screwing on a disposable propane tank. You then screw your extension hose into the female end of the filter and the other end to your 20# propane tank.

This filter installs on the propane hose between the heater and the propane tank.

There are no fuel filters. They are generally not necessary if you use the small, disposable 1# tanks: since these are not refilled multiple times, they don't get the build-up of moisture and contaminants in the tank. Since 20# tanks are refilled frequently, the build up of moisture, rust, dirt and other contaminants in the tank can be significant.

My Big Buddy heater is used occasionally to heat a workshop and loaned out to friends as emergency heat during power outages (which are all too common in my rural community). I've had mine for 5 years or so, and not had to replace the filter yet. A lot will depend on how clean the propane is that you buy, and how much care you take to prevent crud from getting in the fuel hose and tank fittings when they are not in use.

I have used mine for 3 years now in deer stands without replacing them and I hunt all season. If there is a fuel filter in Mr. Heater, I don't think it is adequate for 20 lb. tanks or larger. I read where this filter is needed with larger tanks and extension hoses. I have used 2 of them for 3 years now with no problems.

A fuel filter is not included in the Big Buddy Heater. We are unable to determine the recommended time for replacement as it depends on the contaminants found in the propane tank and hose.
