  1. what size breaker does this welder require

    I see in ad it draws 50a and I also see an answered question from another person that it draws 30a. what I want to know is what it actually is before I decide to purchase.

    1. it's max draw is 37 amps so call it 40 to be safe. I have mine on a 50 amp breaker.

    2. It calls for 50a for a reason, a overload to 50a I could see, does not matter the work darw.

    3. This unit uses a standard 230VAC, 60 Hz input power on a 50A time delayed fuse or circuit breaker.

    Is the output polarity switchable for flux core wire welding?

    3. This multiprocess welder has adjustable polarity for flux core welding. For flux core welding, the welding power cable should be connected to the negative (-) weld output connection on the front of the machine. The ground cable would then be connected to the positive (+) weld output connection. This is opposite of the MIG welding setup.

  4. Can you TIG Alum?

    How come you can TIG steel and stainless steel with the TIG option but not alum?? Thanks

    1. YES, you can TIG aluminum using DC and this machine. It does not give the appearance that AC does, but it actually gives better penetration and less warping. Check out youtube DC TIG Aluminum. I think you will be amazed at what can be done with a little practice.

      This is an awesome welder for the price point. It welds as smooth if not smoother than machines that cost A LOT more. I love mine!

    2. Aluminum welding is normally done with AC, while this welder operates on DC current.

    3. This Welder uses DC TIG that is generally used to weld exotic material like stainless steel, nickel alloys, copper. AC TIG is generally used to weld aluminum and magnesium materials. This welder does not have an option for AC TIG.

    where do you hook the ground for the spool gun?

    1. ground goes to opposite front weld lug. to attach spool gun remove connection for wire feed gun from freont of machine. Same for stick weld. consult your hand book.

    2. The ground cable would be connected to the Negative(-) weld output connection found on the front of the unit. You would then need to attach the clamp to a metal workstation or the material being welded. Please see pages 10-12 in the product manual found on this product's specifications page for detailed installation instructions for the spool gun.

  7. does this welder need c25 for mild steel welds, and 100% argon for the aluminum gun. or will 100% argon work for both processes?

    1. You need two bottles one for c25 for mild steel and 100% argon for aluminum. But what I do is flux core for mild steel so I only need one bottle. Flux just has a little more splatter.

    2. This welder can be used with 100% argon for welding both aluminum and mild steel. Mixed gas is still the best choice for mild steel. When using 100% argon for mild steel welding, the weld isn't quite as good (multiple passes may be required) or cosmetically pleasing as when it's done with mixed gas.

  8. Can I use a 120v adapter with this welder?

    If I do use one will it damage it? Will it work?

    1. No. But there is a dual voltage version of this welder I think it's the 220dv model. It sells for just a bit more than the 220si.

    2. This unit is intended to be used on a 50 amp 230 V A C circuit only. It cannot be made to run off a 110 volt circuit.

    1. I have run .035 and .030 wire with no issues, just use the correct drive rolls (included).
