Questions

  1. Do you need to use shielding gas with this?

    I'm trying to make a coupler out of aluminum for a connection between steel and copper to avoid the galvanic response. I was planning on using .08" or .09" aluminum and wondering if I could use this, or if I would be better just to braze it.

    BTW, the temps on this will probably reach 450 to 500 F.

    1. If possible it is best to use red brass brazed to copper the threaded onto the metal, adding a third dissimilar metal does not sound like a good idea. the red brass and copper will not react with each other and the metal will act as the anode (if the mass of the anode is much greater you will see very little reaction).

    2. A shielding gas will be required for using this wire. It is best to braze different metals.
