  1. 220 line

    Hello..i had a 220 line put in my garage for a decent welder over the summer and i was gonna buy the ironman here and it said it was 230V...will this welder work with my line or do i need to call my electrcian?? thx for any help

    1. Unless you have actually measured it to be 220v, your voltage concern is likely much less significant than you think. Traditionally we call the voltage 110v ( or maybe 115 v) and 220v. Most commonly, unless your discussing industrial applications, we now see voltages as 118-120v and likewise, 236-240v. And this higher voltage will allow lower current levels for the input power. But that's sort of a different issue; as long as the supply voltage is reasonably close to that specified for the machine, it will only draw as much amperage as is needed to meet your power settings selected for yer welding. Hope this helps ....

    2. Your 220/240 volt line is fine. You may need to swap the plug on the welder though.

    3. This welder will work for what you have. I installed a 220/50am breaker, and it works great. This is the option that you need.

    5. 220 voltage is a general term when talking about residential electricity. Your actual voltage will be 240 volt. What should be considered here is the amperage. you need to know the amp draw of the equipment vs. the amperage of the circuit. The circuit should be sized accordingly, Breaker and wire gauge. Never over rate the circuit more than 15% of the actual laod and never under rate the circuit by any percentage.

    6. This Hobart welder requires a NEMA Type 6-50 outlet in order to be plugged in correctly.

      Voltages can vary approximately 5 percent and in most cases you do not have to worry about the Volts being exact, your 220 Volt line will work for the Hobart welder.

  2. will this unit function with an aluminum spool gun and if so which one?

    I looked at this unit's accessories and it showed a spool gun however the spool gun called out a different mig welder for it's application.

    1. Yes, this welder will work with a spool gun, but you must buy the correct one. Like Miller, Hobart offers several machines and spool guns, but the guns are machine specific. I don't remember the model number, but check with Hobart's website if necessary.

    3. Yes, the spool gun listed in the accessories tab is the correct spool gun for this welder. It's item# 916461. It's a direct plug-in spool gun, and is a quick and easy install on the IronMan 230. Please see below.

  3. How long is the power cord?

    1. Mine cam with a 12/3 SO Cord approximately 6 feet long with a sealed connector. 230 VAC / 32.5 Amps

  4. Whats the best wire to get for this machine?? I was going to buy a Miller welder but really liking the reviews on this!

    1. We looked at Miller as well, but this was a better fit for us. We have purchased the portable Hobart stick welder/generator also and it has worked flawless for us for over 4 years now. The wire is strictly related to what materials you are welding and under what weather conditions. We run .035 Flux Core all the time and weld from light gauge metal to 1/2" structural steel.

    2. This welder can be used with .024in., .030in., .035in. and .045in. wire. Flux core wire is best for use outside where shielding gas cannot be used. Solid wire produces the cleanest welds and has to be used with a shielding gas. Shown below are items 164890 a flux core wire and 164893 a MIG welding wire that requires shielding gas.

  5. Can I use co2 argon mix 75-25 with this

    Or do I need 2 separate tanks

    1. One tank of 75 25 is all you need for general welding with the Hobart Ironman 230.

  7. consumables... what type of torch, nozzle and tips are used ? Are they tweeko style, and where can I get replacement tips and gas nozzles?

    1. This welder will use ½” office push on type nozzle. This will not be a Tweco style. You may purchase the nozzles at your local welder store. At this time we do offer a spoolgun kit, item 916461 listed below.
