One of the best ways to get high-quality purified water is a water deionizer. These systems remove dissolved salts and mineral ions, creating water that is free from impurities. The core of a water deionizer is ion exchange resin. These are synthetic beads designed to attract and exchange ions in water. When hydrogen and hydroxide ions combine, they form pure water (H₂O). This process produces water that is much “purer” than filters or softeners. Cation removes positively charged ions like calcium, magnesium, iron, and sodium, replacing them with hydrogen ions (H⁺). Anion removes negatively charged ions like chloride, sulfate, and nitrate, replacing them with hydroxide ions (OH⁻).
Deionized water is used wherever minerals and ions could interfere with processes, equipment, or results.
