what is the amp draw / wattage of this compressor

I installed mine on a 30 amp breaker. With an amp meter installed on line you will find that it runs at about 17-18 amps but takes about 22-25 to start.

The specs printed on the motor are listed as 230V/ 21.5 amps. I talked to the IR tech support folks and they recommend a dedicated 60 amp circuit and 10 guage wire. Hard wire the compressor - no plugs. Also, I'd get the start up kit. The price may seem a little steep but IR will extend the warranty on the compressor by a year if you use the start up kit.

I have this compressor on a 30A, 220 V, single phase circuit with no problems in the first few days of operation.

21 amps @ 240v. Needs to be put on a 30 amp breaker and a disconnect if the breaker panel is not in clear site of the unit..

The full load amp draw on this compressor is 21.5 amps. Amps x Volts = Watts, so this would be just under 5,000 watts.

Amount of heat generated and venting requirements?
I would like to place this unit under an enclosed stairway in my shop. Any issues? Area measures about 3.5'W X 8'L X 8'H with a door.
-
gregownsthiscompressor· 3 years ago
It runs pretty hot. Not excessive, about as expected for the motor and compressor size. You need to make sure it has plenty of room to breathe. As others have stated, without good ventilation, it will burn up.

The manual states that you need 1000 cubic feet of fresh air per minute per 5 horsepower. It also states to position it at least 12 inches from walls.
If you use your compressor very long in that size of room it will melt down or fail early.

Ckicks· 14 years ago
thats enough room as long as you dont block the filter.

The Ingersoll Rand Electric Stationary Air Compressor would not work in that small of an enclosed space. You would want approximately 1000 cubic feet of ventilation around the unit, with at least 18-24" of clearance from the back of the unit, which draws most of the air.

Interesting. My switch just started acting up and needs replacing. I looked at a very popular on-line seller and it seems there are several suitable replacements. I want my replacement to be adjustable or at least with a higher cut-in pressure (higher than the 90 psi on my switch.)

Is bolting compressor to the floor required?
To be placed on a cement floor for home use in basement or garage, does this require bolting to the floor? If so what size bolt/anchor?
-
JohnTXHillCountry· 13 years ago
I bolted mine to two pressure treated lengths of 2x4 and then used an expanding shield anchor for bolting the 2x4s to the concrete floor. I would use 1/2" anchors - I don't think the size is too critical, your just want to keep the unit from tipping over since it is top-heavy.
I would not bolt the compressor directly to the concrete - the 2x4s help isolate the noise/vibration and keeps the steel feet away from any possible water/rust.

ProductExpert6· 14 years ago
It is recommended by the manufacturer to bolt the unit down. It would use 1/2" x 4" foundation bolts. They also recommend an isolator pad be put underneath to help with vibrations.
