    I bought from you guys portable gas powered air compressor Honda GX-390,my question is what kind of battery I have to hook up and how connect cable for electric start ?

    1. BCI GROUP # U1-250 CCA (riding lawnmower size).
      Attach NEG to engine base and POS to Starter “Solenoid” largest stud with two smaller wires already attached to it.

    3. I just put a extra car battery next to it no place to mount one. Run old jumper cables pretty simple little bit tight

    4. You would need to purchase a 12 volt battery with a minimum of 18 amp hour rating.
      Battery Connection: Always connect the cables in the following sequence to avoid possible shock. 1. Connect one end of the red (+) cable to compressor engine’s starter solenoid terminal. Note: Access to the solenoid terminal is from the top may require reaching between the gasoline tank and shroud covering the compressor’s cooling fan. 2. Connect one end of the black (-) cable to compressor engine’s mounting bolt, frame bolt, or other good engine ground connection. 3. Connect other end of the red (+) cable to battery positive (+) terminal. 4. Connect other end of the black (-) cable to battery negative (-) terminal as shown. 5. Coat terminals and cable ends with grease if they
      are to remain permanently connected .

  2. What size battery in CCA/CA @ 12v dc

    Assuming this is a 12 volt system, does it have an alternator like the Ingersoll one? If not what kind of charging system does it have? What is the battery size requirement in CCA & CA? And is it wet or dry cell?

    1. This unit/engine does have a 3 amp charging system. If an external battery is used, it requires a group U1 with a minimum rating of 18 amp hour (Ah) and should have 330 cold cranking amps (CCA) for winter or 170 CCA for summer. It would be a lead acid wet battery.

    2. Yes, charges at 3 amps. I recommend installing a solar charger, as I did.

    3. This unit/engine does have a 3 amp charging system. If you are using an external battery it requires a group U1 with a minimum rating of 18 amp hour and should have 330 CCA for winter or 170 CCA for summer. It would be a led acid wet battery.

    1. Yes, i have another compressor that i have wired in to the trucks battery. This compressor has a 12 volt starting/ignition system.

    3. When this compressor is mounted on a vehicle it is possible for the compressor to be connected to the vehicle battery as long as it is a 12 volt system.

  5. Duration of operation

    How many hours at a time this unit can be used for or does it have to be shut down after a period of time to prevent over heating ? And what is the time (2 hours , 3hours.....)?

    1. This compressor can run continuously. When you run out of fuel, let it cool for a few minutes ( to prevent a fire from possibly spilling gas) and fill the tank with “Ethanol Free” unleaded gasoline, that’s all the rest it would ever want. Regular unleaded gas works fine but we have found that the newer Honda’s seem to be less temperamental on “E-Free” gas, 87 octane minimum.

    3. This NorthStar Portable Gas-Powered Air Compressor is rated at a 100% duty cycle for continuous use. A specific run time for the engine is not available due to many variables including idle time, the frequency of the compressor pump kicking on and off, etc. The engine should be allowed to cool off for at least two minutes before refilling the gas tank.

    1. This NorthStar air compressor does not include rubber feet; however, we do offer vibration pads, item 49494, which can be purchased separately.

  8. COMPRESSOR COVER ?

    Since this will be mounted in the back of a pick up truck, I would like to cover it when not in use. Do you make an outdoor rated cover to protect this ?

    1. Currently, we do not offer a cover that is designed specifically for an air compressor; however, we do offer tarps. Items 4955269 or 4955331 are options we offer that could work for covering this compressor.

    2. I've wondered the same thing and was unable to find one. Since I use mine as stationary, I built a cover. You could probably find a generator cover with drawstrings to cinch tight enough so the wind doesn't take it. As I did with my trailer mounted pressure washer.

    1. This air compressor is capable of supplying up to 24.4 CFM at 90 PSI. It is best to check the air requirements of the machine being used when selecting the appropriate air compressor.

  10. Is the tank OSHA approved ? The inspector from the pressure vessel unit is giving me a hard time because the tank doesn’t have a certified tag/ plate on the tank ?

    1. The tank of this compressor is ASME certified. It does not have a separate OSHA rating.
