    1. This is a winch exclusively built and designed for horizontal pulling. This winch is not designed for lifting.

  2. does this have power in and power out?

    compared to item # 14009-2101, pg 68 of catalog, what are any of the drawbacks on this cheaper 1000lb capacity ac winch?

    It weighs more than #14009-2101 and has more hp....is it a more heavy duty unit?

    Has this had any returns recorded yet?

    1. The Warn 1000AC has a vented motor cap that gives this winch the longest duty cycle of any 1000lb AC winch on the market. It also has externally serviceable brushes and an industrial planetary gear train. This winch can run the entire drum of wire rope out and back in at full capacity before needing to cool down.

    2. Yes, both items in question have power in power out and both are made in China. The Warn winch is heavier construction, has slightly more horsepower and includes a fairlead, the Superwinch does not. Other than those differences they are similar products. At this time I am not aware of returns that have been made on either unit.

  3. How do I mount this winch to a 4x4” post?

    1. Be sure to choose a mounting location that is sufficiently strong enough to withstand the loads you intend to winch. The mounting platform should withstand 4x the rated load of your winch. Mounting hardware is included.

  4. How does the steel cable attach to the spool..does it have a puck?

    1. The winch does not have a puck. The installation hole for the steel cable on the drum is a tapered hole. The head of the steel cable is turned back to form a wedge. Under the action of external force, it will be pulled tighter thus fixing the steel cable to the drum.

  5. Does the Model# 80010 come with a line leveler or can one be added?

    1. The winch does not come with a line leveler and one is not available for it. It does have a flat panel on the back that helps the wire to evenly wrap back in.

  6. Other Q&As said this can run a full spool of cable out & back at full load, and also that it can run for 10 minutes before needing to cool. How long does it take to cool back down at a normal ~70 degree F ambient temperature? Also, how much does it weigh?

    1. This unit has an intermittent duty cycle. It does not have specific cool down times based on run time or ambient temperatures. It should not be operated with the motor slowed down to a low RPM. When the motor approaches stall speed, a very rapid heat build-up occurs which may cause motor damage. Reduce run time and increase cooling if this happens. The winch weighs 26.5 pounds.

  7. Can I put an 80 ft synthetic rope on this winch?

    1. The winch would not hold 80 feet of synthetic rope. It is designed for the 40 feet of 3/16" cable that comes with it. Replacing the cable would void the warranty.

    1. This winch requires a mounting plate to operate. Currently mounting options for this model are unavailable from Northern Tool.
