  1. Can this winch be mounted with the base facing up? Is it suitable for exterior mounting, e.g. on boat davits?

    1. I don't see any reason why not. If you use it outside, you'll have to improvise some kind of weatherproof cover for it, as the unit isn't rated for outdoor exposure.

    2. The Dutton-Lainson Strongarm Winch is not made to be used in any other position than what is shown in users manual. It is for indoor use only.

  2. Mounting?

    How would I secure this to a wall?

    1. you could drill holes through the wall, run bolts from the back side and install washers and nuts on the winch side. BUT.... you're going to need more than a 3/4" thick siding board to anchor this to. 1200 lbs of pull will rip siding right off of the framing members.

    2. The winch is equipped with keyhole slots in the base for use with quick mounting shoulder studs, if desirable. If you wish to use quick mount studs, they should be mounted securely into the winch stand. After positioning the winch on the studs, a 3/8" bolt should be placed in one of the other holes available to keep the winch securely in position.

  3. Difference between #140011 and #140010 ??

    What is the difference between this unit (NT #140011, Manufacturer's model #SA5015AC) and NT #140010 / manufacturer's model #SA5000AC.

    The specs look identical. Is it just the remote control vs the switch mounted on the unit?

    1. Northern item #140010 has a three position rocker switch and has a controlled freewheeling clutch and automatic brake.
      Northern item #140011 has a dual switch remote control and provides dynamic braking.

  5. Installing

    I want to use this in my boat dock to hoist my Wave Runners. The question I have is that I need to contact it to a "I" beam. Can this be installed to an I beam?
