  2. Can this be mounted on a trailer that is left outside? In other words is it designed for weather use and storage?

    1. The winch is not weatherproof. It is not designed for outdoor use, it should be kept in a dry location and protected from the elements.

  5. What does “run time” mean?

    1. The run time would refer to how long the winch can operate for. The winch would need some time to rest after being used for 3-5 minutes.

  6. WHY LIMITED TO HORIZONTAL PULLING?

    The manual for this and many similar winches caution the
    user to NOT use for vertical lifting applications. Could you explain why.

    1. The gearing system and motor on winches are designed to pull not to lift. When lifting, gravity exerts much more weight and stress on the gear and motor than pulling does. So winches are always designed for pulling. Lifting with a winch not only will void the warranty but could cause a very dangerous situation.
      If you want to lift then you would need a hoist. Hoists are designed and engineered for lifting.
      Northern does carry hoists and examples are listed below.
