  1. I will need to license the trailer, does it come with certificate of origin papers so I can get a title?

    1. The manufacturer's Certificate of Origin will be sent by mail (USPS) to the mailing address on file for the purchaser. The certificate of origin is signed and will arrive one to two weeks after the trailer has been shipped.

    2. Yes - the certificate has the VIN and manufacturer listed - my state took it now problem.

  2. What is the proper procedure to grease the hubs?

    Details for first time greasing and subsequent service would be appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Axle hubs are almost always contaminated with casting sand. Use a nylon rotary brush and soapy water to wash the inside of the hub. Rise throughly with clean water. Let dry throughly. Use light oil to coat the inside of the hub and pack with 1/4" of high temperature axle bearing grease Synthetic Multi-Purpose Grease NLGI #2. This post is based upon personal experience putting together a trailer like this.

    2. bearings are loose and pre packed. You can add more grease before assembly if you want. Afterward there are zerk fittings in the hubs to maintain the grease.

    3. There are grease fittings on the back of each of the hubs. The bearings should be manually repacked every 2000-3000 miles or yearly and this may require taking the trailer to a qualified technician.

  3. Do the aluminum surfaces have a protective coating

    Aluminum may not rust, but it will corrode.
    There is an assortment of protective coatings typically applied to aluminum i.e. Alodine, Anodize, Hard Anodize, paint, epoxy Powder Coat.
    Is anything used for surface protection on the aluminum portions of this product?
    What about the steel axle? Does it have a protective coating?

    1. The axle is painted, looks like powder coat, same as all other steel pieces of the kit. It is a "U" channel, not solid/enclosed tube.

    2. This Ultra-Tow Folding Aluminum Utility Trailer is brushed aluminum. There is no surface protection, as aluminum will not react with water (rain or sea). The axle is black powder coated.

  4. Can this trailer be towed with the rear section folded until needed?

    1. no, the tail lights will not show

  5. How do the hinged lock together to keep the trailer from folding during driving?

    1. It bolts to the support frame. To make it quick action, I use a quick release pin so set up/take down time is faster. Even if you forget to put the bolt/pin in, it still wouldn't fold up on itself though.

  6. Can I use this for my jetski?

    Can it be fitted with a winch and bunks so I can trailer my jetski with it?

    1. The trailer is not designed to be used for a jet ski application. We do offer the item number 37554 for a jet ski or personal watercraft.

  7. What is the width of the Coupler Base?

    I'm looking to upgrade the standard coupler to a 2" version since every other trailer I have uses a 2" ball.

    1. The coupler base measures 2-1/2 inches wide. The item number 605644 will be a 2 inch ball coupler that will fit a 2 1/2" wide base.

    2. That is one of the enhancement I made to mine for the same reason. Northern sells the coupler to fit this trailer (2 1/2" channel), but holes to mount the 2" coupler don't match the holes for the 1 7/8" coupler. You will have to drill 2 new holes. I highly recommend using a drill press. The steel is pretty thick (as it should be).

  8. What type of wire connector do I need?

    Is the wire connector from trailer to vehicle a 4 wire flat, 5 wire flat or 7 way trailer connector?

    1. It's a 4-flat connector.

    1. There is 4 "holes" per wheel.

  10. Is the channel that the coupler bolts on to 2", 2.5" or 3" square?

    Would like to replace stock 1 7/8 ball coupler with an Ultra-Tow 2" coupler.

    1. I replaced stock 1 7/8 ball coupler with an Ultra-Tow 2" coupler on my trailer. The channel is 2 1/2".
