  1. Can this pump run Continuously?

    As a pond pump

    1. I first encountered this pump when working for a construction company building a wastewater plant at Camp Lejuene, NC. We would leave these pumps in an excavation on Friday and return on Monday and they would still be trying push water and muck through 200' feet of sand filled hose. When they pumped a hole dry they would stay lubricated with the water in the hose trying to flow back through the hose. When the hose clogged the water would submerge the motor and cool it. IMHO you could not expect more from a pump.

    2. We've had a lot of rain in the northeast these last couple of weeks. I've been pumpimg out a small pond in my backyard continuously for those 2-3 weeks. I have 3 of these pumps (yes, we get a lot of water!). They're probably 4-5 years old and they will run continuously. The water volume they put out is impressive. I just wish they had an cycle/no cycle switch similar to a sump pump. The available tethered mercury switch requires a lot of room and a lot of "travel" for on/off cycling. Powerful and dependable, you won't be sorry if you purchase this pump.

  2. Can this connect to a standard garden hose?

    1. Yes it can be but by doing so you will be ristricting the outlet volume thus you will not get 3000GPH

    2. No, I wouldn't use anything less than 1.5", It has a 2" outlet and that's what I use (2" PVC). If you used reducers to get down to garden hose size, I'd worry that the back pressure created might damage the pump.

    3. No, this Tsurumi trash pump should not be reduced to a 3/4 inch garden hose application, reducing the port size will effect the flow rate and damage the pump.

  3. Can this pump be used to remove heavy algae from a pond?

    I know it says it'll handle up to 2'' solids, but can it handle a continuous flow of thick heavy algae?

    2. The Tsurumi Submersible Trash Pump will handle solids up to 1/4 inch in size so as long as the liquid to be pumped is free flowing and contains no solids larger than that it will work.

  4. Can this pump be submerged for months at a time without being used?

    I know that it is a submersible pump, but if it is sitting at the bottom of a septic tank with being used once every few months, will it get clogged and not be able to start?

    Also, is the inlet diameter really only 3/8 of an inch with the outlet being 2 inches?

    1. yes 3have one of theses pumps submersed 365 days a year and works every time we need it.

    2. This pump can be submersed in water for months at a time without causing damage. The inlet of this pump is 3/8 of a inch while the outlet is 2 inches.

  5. I have at least 1 foot of "muck" at the bottom of a 40 foot diameter spring fed damed pond. Can this be used to remove that?

    Any other pumps that might handle this better?

    1. I would not try it. Try an airlift with an air compressor.

    2. This pump is capable of handling sand, debris and solids up to 1/4 inch in the water it pumps out. There are pumps which could do a better job.

      The IPT by Gorman-Rupp submersible shredder sewage pump is great choice. Item number 105760.

      Also the Flotec cast Iron sewage pump would be an improvement also as it handles up to 2 inch solids instead of just the 1/4 inch solid handling capacity of the Tsurumi pump. The Flotec is item number 38535.

  6. I want to use it as a small dredger to move sand?

    1. I would not think so. Try an airlift with an aircompressor.

    2. This submersible trash pump can be used to transfer water that carries sand, but not sand alone.

  7. Freeze Protection?

    Can this unit be used to drain a pool cover in New England where the unit may freeze / thaw?

    1. The pump should not be allowed to freeze while water is in the lower pumping section. Cold water is fine, but solid ice is not.

    2. This pump could be used to drain a pool cover. However, before storing for the winter it is recommended to dry the unit out as much as possible.

  8. Must this be plugged into a gfci outlet. I do not have such outlet outdoors.

  10. Does this pump have automatic shut off when no water is present?

    1 answer

    1. This pump does not have a float switch and does not shut off automatically. You would need to monitor it and shut if off when the water has been drained.
