The SunStar Heating Products Ceramic Heater is ideal for spot heating or area heating of remote locations, farm buildings, shops, service areas, pump houses or other hard-to-heat spaces, providing both fuel efficiency of radiant heat and installation flexibility (not recommended for car washes). This is an energy-saving Direct Spark Ignition heater and can be controlled by a line voltage, Item #16284 or 24V thermostat, Item #16342, (both sold separately). May require the following second stage regulators prior to the heater based on gas supply pressure: A regulator up to 2 PSIG line pressure or a regulator above 2 PSIG line pressure (both sold separately). NOT CERTIFIED OR APPROVED FOR RESIDENTIAL USE. Indoor use only. U.S.A.

NOTE: Please review the detailed Installation Operating Instructions (attached) for other specific installation requirements (gas pressure, ventilation etc.) prior to purchasing the heater.

  1. Is there a kit that switches these propane heaters over to natural gas?

    1. There is not conversion kit available to change the heater from propane to natural gas. Each heater is designed to work specifically with either propane or natural gas. This unit for natural gas is item #16305.

  2. Which regulator does this heater require?

    1 answer

    1. The maximum supply pressure to the heater is 14" water column or 1/2 PSI. If the pressure is more than the maximum supply pressure then a line regulator would be used. If the maximum pressure is less than 1/2 PSI a second stage regulator is not required. The item number on the two stage regulator is 25819.

  3. Dose this unit need to be vented?

    1. The heater would require ventilation in the building to provide fresh air for efficient combustion. It would require a minimum ventilation flow of 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU per hour of total installed capacity. Power ventilation is recommended, the minimum vent air flow for this heater would be 400 CFM. See page 11 of the product manual listed on our web.

    1. The recommended propane tank for this heater would be a minimum 500 gallon.

    1. This heater would not work in an area where flammable vapors are present from paint and paint fumes.

  7. What size heater should I get?

    My garage workshop is a 12 X 25x12 ft side walls and a peaked roof. It is an all metal building with no insulation. I live in upstate NY and 0 degrees is common. What size heater and type should I purchase? It will need to run off propane and I would like electronic ignition so there is no pilot to have to light.

    1. The SunStar Infrared Ceramic Heater would not be recommended for installation for any height less than 16 feet above finished floor surface. A good option for your apparent situation would be Northern Item # 29127. Always check with local codes and ordinances to make sure you are in compliance for installation.
