  1. hose and filter material?

    What is the hose and filter material? I'd like to keep the hose and filter continuously submerged in a biodiesel tank for fueling my vehicles at home. What material is the hose (both inside and outside), filter, and clamp made of? Do you know if they are compatible with biodiesel?

    1. Clamps are Stainless, No filter media, just a strainer (fine screen) for the pickup, cast Iron pump (head) housing, Aluminum hose adapter for pump to hose fitting. Specs are not indicated (on the hose) but it is 3/4" OD, nylon reinforced regular fuel hose.

    2. The hose and strainer are made of polymers. The strainer also has a metal mesh. The clamp is made of metal. When not in use this product should be stored in a dry location and it is for diesel only.

  2. Is it OK to reduce the intake hose dia to 1/2"

    I need to draw fuel from a boat tank that has a fuel line of 1/2"

    1. This pump cannot have a restriction on the suction side. You will pop the fuse and/or burn it up in short order. You could suck fuel out of the filler neck, but not the 1/2" fuel line.

    2. This diesel transfer pump cannot be used with hoses/tubing that are less than 3/4" diameter. The intake hose cannot be reduced down to 1/2".

  3. will this pump work with used motor oil?

    1. Nope (at least not for very long...)
      Used motor oil has suspended metallic particulate matter. Run metallic particulate matter through a hydraulic fluid (type) pump, and you will need a new pump, (really soon)
      It is designed for Diesel Fuel.

    2. This pump is for diesel fuel transfer only. It cannot be used to transfer used motor oil.

  4. Do you have a product like this one that can be used for gasoline?

    1. At this time none of the 12 volt portable fuel pumps we sell are rated for gasoline.

    2. All my personal observation.There are but not this one. To use this on gas it is a potentially fatal improper use. I am not going to explain the configuration or the physical properties that I personally feel could result in death. In any portable metal containers be it a 55 gal barrel or the varies tanks manufactured for fuel always have a dedicated earth ground. Even static electricity caused by the fuel moving through the hose and a page full of other situations. Probably the normal person isn't qualified to buy install and use his own 115VAC tank and pump for gasoline.

    1. This diesel fuel transfer pump cannot be used for siphoning gasoline.

  6. How does it suck up the fuel? Only see 1 hose

    I only see a discharge hose, how does it get the fuel up to the pump? What is its max suction length and longest pumping distance ?

    1. The 12 volt Roughneck Diesel Fuel Transfer Pump comes with a 13 foot hose that can be cut to use as both suction and discharge hose. You can use 3/4 inch hose if you need additional length. The maximum suction is 6-1/2 feet, with a total head of 39. Total head is a combination of suction plus discharge, horizontally and vertically. For example, if suction was 4 feet straight up, you would be able to go 35 feet straight across, or if pumping uphill, say 10 feet, you could only go 25 feet across.

    2. The hose that comes with it can be cut in half or any length you feel works best. we just add another hose to give us 50 foot of use.

  7. Is this compatible for use with Gasoline? or Gas oil mix, such as premixed boat gas?

    1. No, not with this pump.
      No gasoline, of any type, EVER.
      Flash point is too low.

  9. will this work with a 250 gallon tank

    1. This transfer pump can be used with a 250 gallon tank to pump diesel or kerosene, as long as the depth of the tank does not exceed the maximum suction lift of 6.5'.

  10. Are you able to pump normal regular gas for a boat with this? Are you able to wire it for plug into a normal power outlet? Thanks

    1. This fuel transfer pump cannot be used for pumping gasoline. Changing it to 120V electricity is not recommended. Making modifications to this would void the warranty.
