This sturdy 41-Gal. RDS Aluminum Auxiliary Fuel Tank/Toolbox Combo provides extra fuel storage that allows for increased driving range. The auxiliary tank can be used as additional capacity for diesel truck fuel tank when connected with the RDS diesel install kit (sold separately). This combo tank includes a fuel cap, drain fittings, manual sight gauge, fuel filler shroud for safety, and baffles to reduce sloshing. The toolbox has a linked stainless steel lock that also secures fuel fill to prevent tampering. Two cylinders hold the crowned lid open. Aluminum diamond plate. Meets DOT standards. Made in the USA

  1. Does this use bottom drain or siphon?

    The description on the compare list shows: Suction tube, manual sight gauge, baffles, return, drain fittings.

    Does the suction tube mean the fuel siphons to the main tank? And what is the manual sight gauge, is there a view port or does this mean dipping the tank with a gauging stick?

    1. This tank would use the bottom 3/8" drain port if used in an auxiliary application. It would require auxiliary conversion kits #3490901, #3490902, or #43748 depending on which make, model, and year truck you have. The sight gauge is a view port built into the fuel cap.

    2. It is gravity fed, you will need to purchase the kit separately. The manual site gauge is similar to one you would see on a lawn mower, its a metal rod with a float.

    3. This tank is set up for bottom drain / gravity feed into the vehicle tank. There is an additional fitting at the top of the top to install top siphon tube if you wish but no kit that I know of to do it, so you will have to design and source the parts yourself.

    4. This is a drain tube which can be plumbed into your vehicle fuel filler neck. There is also a vent tube that is used at the top of the tank. The fuel gauge is located on the Filler cap of the tank itself.

  2. Does this tank/box come with the drain/hook-up tubes?

    1. The tank has a 3/8" drain that can be used for auxiliary conversion for diesel gravity feed. It does not include any hook-up tubes. Please see our item #3490901, #3490902, or #43748 for auxiliary conversion kits that can be used.

    4. The tank has a 3/8" drain. The tank does not include hook up tubes. Our item numbers 3490901 (Model number 011025) and 3490902 (Model number 011029) shown below are the diesel installation kits available for these tanks.

    1. No, it is not available in black powdercoat.

  4. Can the tank be placed against front of the truck bed and the lid open fully without interference or will the box have to be set back from bed front

    1. No, it requires 1 1/4 inches between the front of the bed and the back of the tank for the lid to function correctly.

    2. The RDS Toolbox Combo would need to be installed about 1 1/2 inches from a solid back surface to allow proper opening of the lid.

  5. can I put a pump on this like the other slip tanks so I can fill up other trucks

    1. This tank does not have a 2" fitting to install a pump. Please see our item #3490117 for a similar tank/toolbox combo that can have a pump installed.

    2. A pump can not be put on this tank to fill up other trucks, I will list a tank below that will accept a pump to transfer diesel fuel.

  6. does this have to hook into the fuel tank?

    1. You can install this tank without hooking into the vehicle fuel system. That is what I did as I did not want to hook into my vehicle until my extended warranty has exprired to avoid any possible issues should a fuel related problem arise. I use the Northern Tool Roughneck Portable 12V Fuel Transfer Pump Kit — 10 GPM, Manual Nozzle, Hose to fill my vehicle but the filter end has to be modified as it is too wide to fit into the Auxiliary tank filler neck.

    2. The RDS Fuel Tank Toolbox Combo does not require it to be hooked into your trucks fuel tank.

    1. The width of the box across the top is 18 inches. The width across the bottom is 12 inches at the taper.

    1. This is an auxiliary fuel tank and is not intended for use as a transfer tank with a pump. This would be used with a diesel install kit like our item #3490901, #3490902, or #43748.

  10. How many inches wide is on the bottom of tank?

    My truck is Dodge Ram 2500, 2010, mega cab, short bed
    I have only 15 1/2 " to tire bump. If your tank is 18" on the bottom - it will not fit in.
    I'm looking for box/tank that will fit on my truck and the tank to be around 50 GA

      Total Length = 55", Width at Top = 18", Width at Base = 12", Total Height = 21 3/4"

      The measurement for the toolbox portion are as follows;

      Height = 9", Length = 48", Width = 18"
