  1. What is the diference aux and/or transfer tanks

    1. Nothing really, but the hookup is the difference depending on the outlet placement, Aux is generally gravity fed, whereas a transfer tank usually has a pump and some even a valve and onto having a remote fuel guage and auto shutoff.

    2. Trans tanks are used to refill equipment at jobs sites, etc. and have permanant pumps attached to them. Aux tanks are simply additional storage for the vehicle carrying the fuel. Think of the Aux units as driving range extenders.

    3. Auxiliary tanks can be connected directly to a vehicles fuel line. Transfer tanks would need to have a fuel transfer pump to either fill the vehicle or other fuel tanks.

  2. Gasoline VS Diesel

    Why can this not be used with gasoline? Is there a similar product that can be used with gasoline?

    1. There are regulations set by the DOT restricting this tank from use with gasoline due to safety concerns. Please see our item #98679 for a slightly larger tank that can be used with gasoline and has a transfer pump included.

    2. There are regulations set by the DOT restricting this tank from use with gasoline due to safety concerns. Northern does carry a similar item which can be used with gasoline but it is a little bigger with a 60 gallon capacity. See item below.

    1. This auxiliary tank cannot be used as a transfer tank and does not have the proper fitting to add a pump.

  4. Is this an auxillary tank or a transfer tank? How does a gravity fill work?

    1. This tool box tank combo is an auxiliary tank only. This tank can gravity feed diesel fuel into the fuel tank in your truck with an auxiliary conversion kit, item #3490901, #3490902, or #43748. As the main tank uses fuel, it is replaced from the auxiliary tank.

  5. Can the fuel supply the main tank be left in the on position permanently?

    1. The main tank can be left on. When the auxiliary tank is used with the proper auxiliary install kit, the kit will have a ball valve that keeps the auxiliary tank from over filling the main tank.

    1. This tank was not designed to be used in conjunction with a topper; so it is not possible to fill the tank with at topper in place.
