  1. Starting BBQ Charcoal

    Would this be able to start a BBQ fire? I have seen similar uses, known as a Texas Match at BBQ Competitions

    1. I belive with the 500,00 BTU torch model #171725 you may find the material in your BBQ grill may be on burned out ashs after lighting it with this torch. Would recommend a can of starter fluid and a Iowa wooden match. But its a exciting thought !

    2. If you mean starting charcoal in a large grill for some sort of giant cook off this unit would certainly do the job.

  2. is the diameter of the torch head still 2 1/2 inches

    2. This torch kit includes a torch head that is approximately 3" in diameter.

  3. Modern tank connector??

    This torch appears to hook up to the older style propane tank. Do you offer the same torch, with the newer tank connector? In New York state,the old style tank is no longer allowed to be re-filled with fuel.

    1. It will connect to the new style propane tank valve as well as the older style without any adapters.

    2. The Propane Torch Kit fits the old and new style tanks. The only area they changed is the outside of the tanks. This fits into a inside thread, that has not been changed.

  4. How long will it take this torch to burn a pound of propane?

    1. This Propane torch would use a pound of propane in 1.5 hours at lowest setting and 4 minutes at 500,000 BTUs.

  5. Does anyone make a torch kit for Natural gas as the source of fuel? Or, is there some way to adapt this torch kit for natural gas?

    1. This Propane Torch kit is designed for propane and there is not a way recommended to use with natural gas. Northern does not carry a torch kit like this which operates on natural gas and most likely there is not one made for natural gas because these torch kits are designed to be portable requiring tanks which can be filled and refilled with propane.
