HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE GENERATOR I NEED?

HOW TO CALCULATE
Running watts needed: Total running watts of ALL items to be powered by the generator.
Starting watts needed: Add highest SINGLE starting watt to total running watts needed above.

EXAMPLE

  1. Calculate running watts
    Furnace 600 + Lamp 100 + Microwave 1000 + Refrigerator 700 = Total running watts 2400
  2. Calculate starting watts
    Total running wattage 2400 + Refrigerator 2200 = Total starting watts 2400

QUICK REFERENCE WATTAGE

1200-1800 watts examples: power tools, coffee maker, heat stove. 2800-3800 watts examples: refrigerator, electric table saw, clothes washer. 5500-12000 watts examples: air compressor, electric furnance, clothes dryer.

  2. When showing 120/240V I assume it means single phase. Why the 4 prong connectors if single phase?

    1. This is a single phase generator. The NEMA L14-50R is an industrial-grade receptacle commonly used for high-power devices like EV chargers, RV hookups, generators, and electric ranges/dryers.

  3. Why is the yellow light blinking and the generator shuts off

    1. When the yellow light is blinking, a CO Sentry system fault occurred. When a system fault occurs, the generator is automatically shut down and the yellow indicator light in the CO auto shut off area of the control panel will flash to provide notification that a fault has occurred. The yellow light will flash for at least five minutes after a fault. The generator can be re-started, but may continue to shut off.

    1. This generator will run for approximately 14.18 hours at half load and approximately 9.27 hours at a full load when using a 50 lb. propane tank.

    1. At half load, the unit consumes 1.6 kg/h (76,160 BTU/h) on propane and 3.2 L/h (105,600 BTU/h) on gasoline, while at full load it consumes 2.4 kg/h (114,240 BTU/h) on propane and 5 L/h (165,000 BTU/h) on gasoline.

    1. The generator will charge the battery when it runs; however, if the generator has been sitting for some time, using a trickle charger like item 167981 is recommended to maintain the battery.

    1. This generator is equipped with a 120/240V 50 amp (NEMA L14-50R) receptacle which can be used to connect an RV or larger appliances.

  9. Do you need any extra extension cords?

    1. Extension cords may be used to power devices that are located at a distance from the generator. However, use only UL-listed, outdoor-rated, grounded extension cords of the proper size. There is a table on page 16 of the Product Manual which shows the proper sizes.

    1. It is best to check the requirements of the welder to determine if this generator will support it. This generator will supply up to 9,500 watts continuously and is equipped with a 120/240V 50 amp receptacle.
