that would be a great project. dig a hole - place post - sack of premix concrete and set over nite. place grill and put a bolt long enough for double nylon nuts. never had one stolen from our park. but if you are worried than just tack weld where bolt slides through.

Would this be ok for a park?
My son is looking at replacing the grills at a local park as part of his Boy Scout Eagle project and I am wondering if these grills would work out? Do they last a long time? Are they sturdy enough? Can they be set up permantly, so nobody steals them?
Thanks-

we have ours in a small community park and so far no issues. We welded the fittings to be sure someone doesn't walk off with them.

Ive only had mine for a few days, but they do seem as sturdy as other park grills.
They can be setup permanently. there are dimples for you to hit with a hammer so that the threads cannot be backed out. Also the pin that goes in the bottom of the grill goes in and doesn't ever come back out.Helpful?

Yes these grills are made of heavy duty steel and would work well for the scouts project. I plan on having mine a long time, if any rust develops you can easily hit the spot with a wire wheel and some high heat black spray paint, and problem solved I feel like mine will last for years.

How does it get mounted to the ground?
-
pwforeman· 10 years ago
i dig a hole 2' with a p[ost hole digger and put just the post in ground with a bag of premix concrete.

You'll need at least 2 bags of concrete. You can just stick it in the ground without concrete but theft could be an issue.

They get cemented in like a fence post.

You simply have to dig a hole about 16" deep in order to place a portion of the first of two supplied sections of the mounting posts in the ground. I alternated back-filling with a layer of the soil removed from the hole and an equal sized layer of concrete mix, repeating until it was filled while watering and tamping each layer. You could also adapt the posts to be free standing and movable if you're handy with a welder.

Mounting instructions come with the grill. Its very easy all you have to do is dig your hole put mounting post in pour in concrete and then level the post with a level. I put a slight backwards angle on mine to aid in draining of rain water, there are areas on the backside of the firebox to do just that.

This Park Style grill would require a 12" diameter x 36" deep hole that would be filled with concrete. Then insert steel mounting pole that is included.

I believe the best way would be to cement it in the ground.

Is the grate manufactured from solid steel round bar or hollow steel tubing?
How thick is the material used to make the grill box?

grate is solid steel. never have had the grates go bad. ours stay in park year round. just scrap or spray debris from bottom from time to time. it will last you for over a decade. not sure the exact thickness but you can beat on it with a baseball bat and won't damage the steel at all.

what is the I.D. of the pipe?
what's the inner diameter of the post/pipe? I see the O.D. is 2 3/8. I have a mount on my camper that accepts a 2 inch post. I might make an inner sleeve to join the 2.
