  1. Will my 22 hp JD lawn tractor pull the sprayer when the tank is full?

    1. Yes. Easily. I tow mine with a John Deere D 140. No issues. Just be careful over muddy ground.

    2. My lawn is 20,000 sq ft. (basically 1/2 acre). I spray at 30 PSI, and my tank will be empty when I'm finished. I run the tractor at approximately 2 mph.

  2. Can one of the boom sprayers be turned off and still leave the other boom sprayer turned on?

    1. Yes it can and either can be adjusted for spray angle.

  3. can the boom sprayers be pointed out instead of down

    I need to spray a deep ditch and need to have the boom sprayers pointing out instead of down is that possible?

    1. this sprayer also comes with a wand sprayer so you should be able to just us the wand sprayer from the top of the ditch

    2. You can easily turn the spray nozzles to spray horizontally. You could close the valve on one of the nozzles and only spray from the other side. Or you could close both spray nozzles and just use the spot sprayer, which would be my choice.

  4. 2.2 GPM, is that adjustable?

    I want to know if i can reduce the flow so it does not burn threw the whole 21 gallon tank in 10 min. My lawn tractor does not go that fast

    1. Yes you can by turning down the pressure regulator.
      That will lower the flow rate.

    2. The pressure adjustment can be adjusted from a high of 100 PSI downward, Works just like the pressure adjustment on a portable air tank.
      This would allow you to control volume of spray. If you wanted to control additional control of spray volume, each boom sprayer has a valve you can adjust as well.

    4. You will want to adjust the pressure on the NorthStar Tow-Behind Boom Broadcast and Spot Sprayer to match the speed of your lawn tractor and the chemical manufacturer's recommendations. Lowering the pressure to match your speed will ensure proper application of the chemical.

  5. Can it be used with a separate battery?

    Can this sprayer be used when connecting to a separate battery (not the one in you ATV/tractor)?

    1. yes any 12 volt

    2. Yes, some people will often use a spare car battey and mount it close to the sprayer. Just need 12 volts to run the pump.

    3. This sprayer can be used with a separate battery; however, the spray time may not be as long as when it is used with a connected battery. If a separate battery is used, it needs to be a deep cycle battery rated at a minimum of 30 ampere hours (Ah). A separate 30 Ah battery will last approximately 1 hour.

  6. Can a hitch ball assembly be used instead of a pin attachment?

    I would want to use a hitch ball assembly for use with my tractor as I use it to pull trailers and other equipment with a two inch ball. Can the hitch assembly be adapted to hold a mount to attach to tractor's using a ball?

    1. The easiest solution would be to remove the ball from the tractor coupler. The hitch will fit right over your coupler and secure with the hitch pin.

    2. Yes, I just bought a 2" hitch and drilled 2 holes into the box iron. Works well. I wired my unit to my mower with a cigarette lighter plug too.

    3. Northern Tool currently does not offer an option to use a ball coupler for this sprayer. If the sprayer was altered to use a ball coupler the sprayer has to be level for proper operation and this may void the manufacturer's warranty.

  7. What is the volume sprayed at 5 mph?

    I have a Husqvarna Zero Turn that I intend to run at about 5 mph for my spraying operation. What volume per acre can I expect from the boom on this rig at that speed (5 mph). Need to calibrate my chemicals properly, and also know if I need to slow down.

    1. We paced off distance on driveway and used water to make test runs and adjust flow.

    2. Spray pressure is adjustable. The owner's manual contains tables on how to control speed and pressure to obtain desired gallons per acre.

    3. The NorthStar Tow-Behind Boom Broadcast and Spot Sprayer will put out 23.8 gallons per acre at 40 psi with a spray height of 21 inches traveling at 5 mph. This is based on a 40 inch spacing.

  8. Does pump-regulator have a bypass return to tank?

    1. Yes

    2. when you cut off the remote switch when using the spray booms, the sprayer quits. When you are using the spray wand, it only sprays when you pull the trigger. There is no wasted product.

  9. Tank design - Will it empty completely

    Is the tank designed such that the intake line for the pump is at a low point of the tank, thus allowing the pump to draw nearly all the liquid?

    1. Yes, the intake sits at the back of the tank and touches the bottom to draw almost all of the liquid out. Usually when unscrew the plug I have about a cup of liquid leftover.
