A quality Honda GX270 engine powers this 32-ton NorthStar® Horizontal Log Splitter. Capable of splitting logs up to 31in. long. Ships fully assembled with hydraulic oil. Shown with optional log lift kit. Features a 2-stage Concentric pump, which decreases cycle time by moving the wedge quickly while traveling towards a log, switching to low gear for extra torque when splitting a log. Uses a powerful horizontal-shaft engine, engineered for a long life.

  1. Does this make kindling??

    I am a novice to the wood cutting hobby. Really need to be able to make my own kindling along with splitting logs. Thanks.

    1. yes they all do but you don't need monster splitter ,20 ton is plenty and faster cycle time and Northern has with racks to catch wood on both sides of splitter .

    2. A log splitter produces too much force for making wood into kindling. The log splitter can be used to cut a section of log into multiple smaller pieces but not small enough for kindling. Kindling is usually obtained with an axe or a hatchet.

  2. Does this engine have the auto idle/throttle feature.

    1. No, It does have a throttle control. I run my splitter about 1/2 to 3/4.

  3. can you get an electric start

    1. not sure why you would need a electric start. mine starts fine. two pulls max.

    2. This NorthStar splitter is not available with electric start. We do have a 42 ton NorthStar unit, item #11960, which does come with electric start. This powerful splitter can split logs up to 30" long. See it below....

    1. On the NorthStar Horizontal Log Splitter the log cradle is part of the i-beam and is not available separately at this time.

  8. is the log lift asembled on the splitter when i pick it up?

    1. The NorthStar 32 ton Horizontal Log Splitter itself does come assembled. The log lift, if purchased separately, does not come assembled. Assembly requires a few dozen bolts and a few hoses be connected. It would would take 1 person about 30 minutes, and would be much faster with 2 or more.
