YES, your grill tank will work fine with this unit. I get 8-12 hours use from a tank. this translates to 2-3 weekends in the shop. I have to turn it off after an hour or so because it heats my 400 sq ft shop so fast.

They recommend keeping a window / door cracked. I have a 3 car garage that I have been using it in, and haven't noticed anything to speak of. I have only kept mine running for 15 minutes at a time, and can't say I have been overwhelmed by any fumes at all.

My shop is 18x20 and this unit will heat it in about an hour with outside temps as low as 17*. My shop is not insulated so I feel this is a great setup.

The fumes ar not bad at all, hardly any. You will never want to be around a fuel oil-kerosene fueled heater again after using a propane fuel heater.

It is advised to use a vapor withdrawal propane supply. If you have any questions on this type of propane, please contact your propane dealer. Being it does use the oxygen from the area it is being used in, the building will need to be well ventilated.

can this heater be used with a thermostat
Such as a thermostat being wired in series with the 115 volt power supply?
-
MajorWedgee· 14 years ago
No, if you cut the AC voltage the blower fan would stop, and possibly the flame, but the flame has to be lit manually by pressing the buttons so it would not re-ignite when the thermostat kicked back on. If the flame did not go out when the AC was cut you'd have a fire risk, as the flame would be concentrated in one spot instead of spread out over the barrel.

NO.... this unit does not have the auto start feature.
if you want a thermostat operation you will need to get the heater with autostart.Helpful?

This heater cannot be controlled by a thermostat, since the burrner is not adjustable and therefore produces 35,000 btu at a steady rate. The 115 VAC input to the unit provides power to the fan. If the fan were to stop running for any reason, including a power failure, the unit would completely shut down, due to an over-heat protection sensor near 240F. Any effort to try to control the fan would would be doomed to failure. This unit is not designed like a regular furnace, which does use a thermostat, but is intended for use as a manually operated heat source.

I do not think that would work. The power supply would turn off the spark - but the propain would continue to flow I think...

This heater is made to run constantly. There is not a thermostat option that will work with this heater. We also offer forced air heaters that are made to be thermostatically controlled. See link below for more details.

How much propane does this heater use?
Will a 5 gal propane can, BBQ grill size, last 24 hours, or how long?
-
NCRockets· 14 years ago
you can get 8-12 hours per 20 pound tank (grill tank).
the prefilled "tank swap" is about 3.2 to 3.5 gallons. Your local gas company will fill to 4 gallons. thus the time difference.Helpful?

JimII· 14 years ago
This is a tricky question. It would depend on a few things . The size of the area you are heating , Is it insulated or not and just how warm you are keeping the area. I have a bigger unit then you are asking about and have used it to heat a garage 24 - 27 ft ( insulated ) over night at about 50 degrees easily.

Mr. Heater Portable Propane Forced Air Heater - 35,000 BTU, Model# MH35FA
can it be used with-out the blower ? or would it just overheat.?
-
Mr. Heater Product Expert· 12 years ago
Thank you for your inquiry. It cannot. Without forcing the air from the chamber, the heater would overheat. Also the heater will not light without the fan running.

ProductExpert40· 12 years ago
This heater is a "forced air" heater meaning it has to have the fan running for it to work at all.
