Yes, Mr Heater makes a hose that will connect this heater to 5 through 20 pound tanks. They do not recommend using a larger tank than 20 pound. The hose is available in 2 different lengths, 5' which is part # F273701 and also 10' which is part # F273704.

It can be attached to a 20lb grill type tank with a hose that Mr. Heater makes. I believe they recommend a filter as well that they make. Don't know if the filter is a requirement or not.

Yes this can be hooked to a propane tank. Basically you need to match up the fitting on the small propane bottles.

-
happycampers· 15 years ago
All you need is the extension hose to any propane tank, you can see how the fittings line up. That way you do not have to rely on the small disposable tanks, it is more convienent and saves you some money too.

I attached mine to a bigger tank and saved a lot of money. You just need the adapter hose and filter.

What are the venting requirements for this heater
-
Anonymous· 14 years ago
Little to none. I use mine all the time in my hunting blind.

The Buddy Portable Heater does not require venting and can be used safely indoors. If there is, by chance, an oxygen depletion, the heater has a sensor which will turn the heater off. We use this heater often during the camping season and have never had an oxygen depletion problem.

No venting is required unless the oxygen in the room is depleted. If low oxygen is detected the unit will shut off and it can not be restarted until the oxygen is at a safe level again.

I always crack a window when using indoors. Any gas (flame) type heater can deplete oxygen, so by cracking a window or two will be sufficient. The unit has never set of my Carbon Monoxide detectors it burns very clean.

Can you safetly operate in a tent?
I go camping with my son a lot with a coleman tent..
-
JailhouseNurse· 7 years ago
I see no problem using in a tent, as long as it is centrally located (not near a wall)...just exercise common sense.

Mr. Heater Buddy Heater is safe for use in a tent to warm it up but not for all night use while sleeping and as long as the tent has areas that are vented, such as under a rain fly, it does have a low oxygen shut off but it better to have the tent ventilated.

The MH9BX is certified for indoor use. A requirement for indoor use is to allow the heater to have proper ventilation. A small 9 square inch opening is recommended.

grill size propane tank safe to use inside small cabin?
-
smudgekat· 9 years ago
It is not recommended to use any tanks, other than the 1 lb canisters, indoors. With that in mind the extensions that are available allowing the use of tanks up to 20 LBS are inexpensive and easy to set up, on my motorhome I fed it thru the electrical door.

The 20 lb. grill size propane tank is not able to be used indoors, it is possible to run a hose from the 20 lb. propane tank outside to the heater that would be positioned inside.
Helpful?
-
Mr. Heater Product Expert· 10 years ago
No, you cannot keep the 20 lb tanks indoors, you can run a hose outside from the heater to the tank, but it is against federal regulation to keep a 20 lb propane tank indoors.

Can this be used *effectively* outdoors?
I want to put this heater near my chair as I pass the evening in a campground before heading into my tent. But the manual states "note: The heater can be used outdoors, but may experience nuisance shutoffs due to certain wind conditions"
How big a threat is that? Is the the heater totally useless for the application I want, or is the "nuisance shutoff" more of a theoretical than a practical problem? Thanks!
-
JGatl· 9 years ago
Yes its not ideal for outside spaces. There is a flame that runs across the front ceramic element. If you don't have a windscreen, it's going to shut off with any significant wind. Even moving it quickly can put out the flame.

awyogal· 13 years ago
I haven't had trouble with it shutting off outside. I think it would be a fairly strong wind to bother. If you use some shelter to break the wind, such as by the tent, I would think it would be OK.

ProductExpert26· 13 years ago
The "nuisance shutoff" is a safety feature on this heater. It is perfect for keeping you warm when putting it next to you outdoors. But if it is real windy out, there may be a problem with it shutting off.

Can this heater be wall mounted?
-
R2727· 11 years ago
Probably not. Since heat rises quickly (and this heater puts out a lot of heat), the best location to place it is on the floor. Mine sits on its firm base in a corner of my 12 x 12 outdoor workshop about two feet out from both walls. Even though my workshop is not insulated, this heater will safely raise the inside temperature from 25 degrees F to 60 degrees F in about 20 minutes.
