Manual says you can cut up to 3/4" material. Page 10. Limitations stated are 25 seconds cutting time maximum, 5 inches of travel maximum before allowing cooling down time.

yes just follow the directions in manual

As long as you follow the cool-down instructions in the manual you should be able to cut anything you want. I've used mine for 1" plate steel for 16" runs. Made shooting targets from the 16"x16" squares and a piece of angle iron. It'll cut 3/8" and way more if you take care of the motor temps.

Can this saw cut square holes in metal?
I need to cut large openings (16' x 20") in galvanized sheet metal and aluminum sheet (1/8") Can you stab the blade down to start a straight cut? We need to cut about 30 of these holes. I figure a Saws All or similar would not cut very straight. Thanks

Yes we have used saw to make plunge cuts.

I would think that a "plunge cut" would not be a problem. We do it on metal deck and sheet metal around 1/8 thick without a problem.

ProductExpert23· 12 years ago
This Milwaukee (Corded) Metal Cutting Circular Saw cannot be used for that application. It is not recommended that you stab the blade down to start a straight cut.

Does the Milwaukee model #6370-21 metal saw create sparks?
We're looking for a metal saw that won't create heat or sparks that would damage galvalume roofing panels, and capable of cutting heavier/thicker metals also.

It does throw sparks. I’ve cut 1/2 inch I-beam and it even went through the “I” with no problem.

Any blade other than a wet saw is going to create sparks.

If the blade is new out the box - for the first few cuts there are no sparks,
even after using it for a while, the amount of sparks is really minimal, must of them get fought in the chick catcher tray on the side of the saw anyways ....Helpful?

ProductExpert26· 12 years ago
This saw will create sparks when cutting metal. Northern Tool does not carry a metal cutting saw that does not create sparks.

The only difference between saw model 6370-20 and 6370-21, is that 6370-21 has a carrying case.

How long should a blade last in normal, according to the instructions, use?
-
texas48· 8 years ago
That would depend on type and thickness of material being cut. We use this saw to cut metal decking and bar grating. The grating us usually 3/16 thick where the deck is around 1 /32 thick. We have been very happy with the life of the blades.

ProductExpert36· 11 years ago
Milwaukee does not specify an average amount of cuts a blade should complete before replacing. There are too many variables including the type of material being cut and material thickness to state an expected blade life.

1 answer-

I need to cut a lot of 1/2” mild steel. 40’ at a time. How long will the blade hold up and will the machine do it without overheating?
1 answer-
ProductExpert11· 2 years ago
The saw will cut most materials up to 2 9/16" maximum depth in a single pass. The length of time that the blade will last is undetermined. There are many variations and types of blades used. The saw will have an overload protector. This will automatically shut down the saw when the motor has been overloaded.
