The Ingersoll Rand Rotary Screw Compressor w/Total Air System will have a timer system that controls operation. When the unit pumps up to its Offline pressure, the unit will change to the "unloaded" state, meaning that it will continue to run but it will not put more compressed air into the air tank. Simultaneously, a timer is initiated for a period of six minutes.
If enough air is used during this time and the compressor needs to make more air, the compressor will ramp back up and start "loading" (compressing air to be sent to the air tank). Once the offline pressure is reached again, the unit will unload and the timer will restart at six minutes. However, if at the end of the six minute time frame there is no need for more air to be produced, the compressor will shut down and the yellow "standby" light on the front of the unit will turn on. From standby mode, when the compressor needs more air to be produced, the unit will restart and compress the air.
