  1. would i be able to get the idle speed down to 1750 RPM

    1. Maybe have a look at the Honda GX100 or GX120? Either of those engines will idle down to 1,750, and are not much larger than the GXH50. The GX100 is Northern Item # 44250 and the GX120 is Item Number 605912 -Robert@Honda

    2. This engine's idle speed runs between 2300 and 2700 RPM's. It cannot be lowered down to 1750 RPM's.

  2. Sealed or Unsealed GX50U

    I am looking for a Honda GX50U sealed engine for kids go kart racing. Can you tell me if this is a sealed engine, meaning I believe it has some sort of seal on the crankcase that means it is certified. Thanks

    1. Honda does not offer any type of sealed engine program.

    2. Honda does not offer any type of sealed engine program. All our engines are manufactured to certain specifications, then delivered (often in bulk) to either a Honda Engine Distributor or another company (OEM, Original Equipment Manufacturer) who then takes the engines and installs them on their equipment (log splitters, pressure washers, go-karts ,etc.). There are no seals, marks, stickers, etc. installed at the factory to seal or otherwise mark an engine to prevent tampering or changes.

      You may wish to ask with the official racing organizations about how an engine may be qualified as "sealed" but I'll guess some third-party usually provides this kind of certification and enforcement of the rules on keeping an engine stock for certain racing classes.

  3. What spark plug does it take

    1. The Honda part number for the spark plug is 98056-55757 or the Denso number would be U16FSR-UB for it.

  4. does this have a reduction gear

    1. This 50 cc engine does not have gear reduction. Northern does not offer a 50 cc engine with a gear reduction. We do offer a 120 cc engine that has a 6:1 gear reduction, item #60326.

  5. What type of clutch comes with the engine/what clutches are availabe?

    I'm mostly interested in getting a manual, friction clutch for this engine, is that possible?

    1. The Honda engine does not include a clutch. We are unable to provide a friction clutch for the engine.
