How can I reduce the distance from the top of the heater to the ceiling?
My flat wood patio ceiling is 11 feet from the ground. If I mount the heater 34" below the ceiling per the owners manual, it would be less than 8 feet above the ground. Can I shield the ceiling from the heat by some approved method. Other brands only have an 18" distance from top to ceiling whereas this model requires 34".

This heater requires a minimum of 34" from the top to combustibles (wood, insulation, etc.). You can use a heat shield to reduce this distance. Check with local building/heating codes to comply with heat shield requirements.

Ceiling to floor requirement
Hello, I need to find out if this or another unit can be installed 9 feet from above the floor as that is my ceiling clearance. Thank you! Julie

The clearance from the bottom is 68" from any combustibles. Typical installations are mounted at 10-12 feet.
