You could drill through the top and bottom ball bearing plates and use a pin or bolt to secure them. You could also weld the plates together. However, it would be easier and cheaper to use a fixed wheel also available from Northern.

Can the swivel feature be disabled?
The wheel is perfect for my application with the exception of the swivel. Is there a way to fix the wheel in one position and have it remain there (NO swivel)?

Yes, two different ways to easily fix the wheel:
1) Place a 2 1/2 SS clamp around the flat swivel plates.
or
2) Drill a 1/8 hole through the flat bearing plates and install a small metal screwHelpful?

Will this wheel attach to a square tube entry gate
The gate is a 10' metal entry gate made of square tubing with each tube being 8" in diameter. Will this wheel attach to this type of gate?
-
Jesse11545· 10 years ago
You would have to bolt it directly to the tubing rather than using the clamps that it come with.

The u-bolts included with this Gate Wheel will work on a frame with maximum diameter of 2-1/8 inches. This would not work on an 8 inch diameter frame.

Rotation around vertical shaft
Since the wheel can't rotate 360 degrees on the vertical shaft without hitting the gate, is there a problem when reversing the direction of travel with it swinging towards the gate and jamming, instead of swinging the other way?
-
Hale1· 7 years ago
I had that concern while installing mine, but it rotates with no problem after I got it attached.

ProductExpert25· 8 years ago
No, the wheel only needs to travel 90 degrees in either direction.

Are there any tricks to prevent the wheel from swiveling around and thus preventing smooth movement of the gate??
-
PaVic· 9 years ago
I had the same issue when I put the wheel assembly on the inside of my gate. I eventually moved it to the opening side of the gate and removed some rocks and bricks that the tire would hit as it swiveled to open and then swiveled to close. It works great now. I wish the directions had been more specific where assembly should go.

This gate wheel does not have a locking mechanism to prevent it from swiveling. This is designed to provide a range of motion so that it can be used on uneven terrain and maneuver easily.
