  1. Can be used as a flow meter

    I have a fill rite 820, very happy with the performance. I require a rate meter not the just the totalizer. Can this meter show the flow rate. If so how do I change it to do that.

    1. This meter does not show the flow rate. Fill-Rite model 825P does give you the ability to see the flow rate. Northern Tool does not currently offer this meter.

      thank you for your question on the 820 digital meter.

      This meter does not have the functionality that you are looking for. Our 825P meter which has a pulse output and a 4 - 2 mA output, does give you the ability to see the flow rate. This meter runs on the lithium cell batteries, or will take a 12 VDC input. You don't need to use the output features, yet to conserve battery life, I would supply a 12 VDC input.

  2. can this meter be used with motor oil

    1. This meter can be used with clean motor oil, as long as flow rate is between 2 and 20 GPM and you do not exceed the pressure rating of the meter.

    2. Thanks for your question regarding the 820 Digital meter.

      This meter can be used with motor oil, as long as:

      1. You can maintain a flow rate between 2 and 20 GPM.
      2. You do not exceed the pressure rating of the meter; 120 psi max at 70° F / 50 psi max at 130° F.
      3. The oil is clean oil. Do not use the meter for used motor oil.

  3. Can I use this as a rate meter without showing the totalizer?

    1. This flow meter can be use as a rate meter but cannot be run without the totalizer and the totalizer must be reset.

  4. Can the flow rate and total gallons be remoted to a computer?

    I need a flow meter that can be remoted to a computer for invoicing totals used. Can this unit be remoted and if so, what additional equipment would you have that is compatible?

    1. This meter could not be connected to a computer to gauge flow rates. Northern does not carry a meter that could be used in this application.

  5. Can this meter be used in a gravity flow overhead tank?

    1. As long as the flow from the overhead tank to the flow meter is at least 2 GPM, this will work in a gravity flow overhead situation.

  6. Can this be used before a tankless water heater to meter hot water for a brewery?

    1. This meter can be used with water the temperature range is 0 - 130 degrees. This cannot be used for a brewery as it is not FDA approved.

  7. Is this meter a true 1 inch from input to output? Or does it taper down for it readings?

    1. This flow meter features both 1" NPT(national pipe thread) inlets and outlets. It doesn't taper down.

  8. Can this product transfer thicker liquids like Round up herbicide?

  9. Can the model 820 be equipped with a contact reed switch register?

    Reed switch is a single pole double throw (Common, Normally Open, Normally Closed) switch that can be used to interface a meter to a Building Automation System.

    1. A reed switch register can not be added to this unit since a pulser can not be installed.

  10. Does meter have continous reading or does it have to be reset for another reading?

    I have a well system with an underground watering system, and would like to monitor the output of the well to the underground watering system. Will this meter work for this application?

    1. This Fill-Rite digital flow meter has a current flow range of 9,999 and an accumulative flow total of 10,000,000. This meter can also be reset to zero at anytime.
