  1. What is the difference between freespooling and automatic brake?

    I'm looking to purchase a 12v 4500lb winch for my boathouse, I'll be running two cables that will connect to my boat at the bow and stern. I'll essentially be picking it straight up to floor level, anywhere from 1-3 feet vertically. The site lists the same model SA12000DC twice. The only difference I see is power in power out, freespooling and power in power out and automatic brake.

    1. The Freespool feature is just that: It “frees” the “spool”. In other words, it disconnects the drum containing the rope from the gearbox. This is similar to putting your car’s transmission in neutral.
      This feature can be quicker than power out with less wear and tear on the motor and unit.
      The automatic brake holds the load in position when it is engaged.
      A winch is designed to pull a load while a hoist is designed to lift a load.

    1. This strongarm winch does not come with a remote control. There is not one available for an accessory.

  3. boat lift able

    can this be used on boat lift to lift and hold boat out of water i have 4000# lift with 3000# boat on it want to change over from manual crank to 12vdc power i would get 4500# winch to do this for safety factor will this work for what i want to do if you need to look at boat lift look at shorestation 4000# lift to see what it is please get back to me so i can make my decision thanks

    1. This winch is designed for a boat lift application to pull a boat out of the water and hold on the lift with the brake.
