  1. What is the average life span of a set of belts

    of course different metals can wear the belts faster or slower but on average
    how long will a set of belts or even 1 belt last?

    I dont want to keep purchasing new belts if they keep wearing out in a week or after just a couple of uses

    1. It depends on how you use your sharpener. I sharpen axes, garden tools and I also use it on anything I want to smooth off like cut metal and plastic pipes. If you use it on a variety of surfaces you can expect to go through belts kind of quickly. If you only use it to sharpen kitchen knives you can expect a set of belts to do the entire kitchen several times before new belts are needed.

    2. I have sharpened 12+/- knives that were in good condition although not very sharp. I am still using the original Medium grit. I wore out a Fine, however I think I started using it before I should have.

    3. After sharpening all the knives in my house at least twice plus all the knives in a friend's house I'm still using the original belts. I don't see any sign of significant wear.

    4. Exactly how long the belts will last I don't know. I can tell you that I have sharpened 6 kitchen knives, 2 pair of scissors and 3 survival/hunting knives 3 times each with one belt and it is still going strong. I bought the extra package of belts to be safe. I think it will be a long time before I will need them.

    5. These belts are designed to provide maximum life for sharpening. It is impossible to give an exact or even an average length of time the belts will last due to many factors including material being sharpened and the amount time a given belt is used. These belts and the sharpener are intended for home use and not for commercial or industrial full time use. Perfect for a home where knives from time to time become dull and in need of sharpening.

  2. How long will a set of belts last?

    1. It took me about 2 years to go through 2 sets (total of 6) belts. Easily over 200 sharpenings. Wear of these obviously depends on what you are sharpening most often, and how bad of shape the blades are prior to sharpening. Not to mention, whether or not one follows the directions and "takes it easy" with the belts (remember, these are for sharpening, not grinding). I've used mine for everything from putting a fine edge on mower blades to fillet knives.

    2. I have had the sharpener for 2 years and have sharpened over 100 knives and close to 30 pair of scissors with the original set of Belts that came with the tool I just purchased the muti belt replacement

    4. Of course that depends on how many times you sharpen and how many items you sharpen. But that being said, I've had mine over 2 years and just bought replacement belts. I use them on a complete set of kitchen knives.

    5. The life of the belts depend on how often they are used and the material they are being used on. Harder metals will cause the belts to wear more quickly. Replacement belts are available. See Below.

    1. The belt size for this model is 1/2" x 12".

  4. Will these work on the WS3000 knife sharpener attachment?

    1. These belts aren't compatible with the WS3000 knife sharpener attachment. The belts for that attachment are longer than the ones included in this kit. Northern Tool doesn't carry that attachment or the belts for it.

  6. I would use this sharpener primarily for mower blades. Are you able to purchase the P80 course belts for tool sharpening in a package by themselves?
