  1. will this jump start my 12v Cummins diesel engine

    I can barely get this truck to jump start if the batteries get run down (cab light left on, etc). Even with new batteries. Takes a tow truck. It takes 15+ minutes for a jump from my friend's Ford 350 diesel. If this can do the job its worth gold to me.

    1. I have used it to start my Duramax Diesel so I would imagine it will start your Cummins.

    2. The Truck Pac Industrial Jumpstarter would be able to start any normal pick up sized Cummins diesel engine per manufacturer.

    3. I've jump started the 6.5 Chev and 6.6 Duramax with my Truck Pac. The 6.5 is usually completed dead when it needs to be jumpstarted.

    4. I've started several Dodge Cummins dual battery trucks with one of these when the batteries were completely dead but if you have to cycle the grid heaters when it's cold it won't have enough juice left over to crank the engine.
      Reason you can't instantly jump start a Cummins from another vehicle is the wire size of the jumper cables. You need expensive cables or make your own from welder cables.

  3. Can the cables be used as an auxiliary power source

    That is, can the clamps be attached to a hydraulic pump to raise / lower the tilt on a trailer ?

    Some power source/jumpstart devices are only activated when they sense the clamps are actually connected to a battery.

    I would like to use a self contained unit such as this instead of carrying around a battery and jumper cables.

    If this one can not be used in this manner, do you have others that can ?

    1. Absolutely. I have used mine to run fuel pump. However, you might want to just mount a regular 12 volt battery and run a charging wire to it from the car battery, or just charge it once in a while.

    3. Yes, The clamps for this unit are always "hot" as the voltage runs continuously and are equal to the battery voltage.

  4. Can i plug the charger into an inverter in the truck?

    i would like to know if it would damage the battery if i charged it fully then kept an inverter running so when ever the truck is on it would charge?

    1. As per the instructions, do not overcharge, and disconnect from the vehicle when fully charged. It holds a charge forever, so I wouldn't worry about trying to keep it charged.

    2. it has a plug to go from your accecory 12 to the jumper pack to keep it charged in your vehicle already. no need for an inverter. But you could if you wanted to.

    3. The Truck Pac Industrial-Grade 12 Volt Jump Starter comes with a wall charger for standard household current, as well as a 12 volt vehicle charger. The unit has overcharge protection, so you can leave it plugged in, although it may be a slight draw on the car's battery when the vehicle is off.

    1. If you keep the battery well maintained and fully charged the average battery life is between 4 to 5 years.

    1. The set of replacement batteries as a part would cost more than a complete unit. At this time the batteries would not be available through Northern Tool.
