Shop Fox W1858 8in. x 72in. Dovetail Jointer w/ Helical Cutterhead Mobile Base

All the best features on an 8in. jointer.

The W1858 Jointer is a feature-packed machine with so much to offer, especially the 4-row helical cutterhead with 36in.dexable carbide inserts.

The inserts slice through wood at an angle to achieve a sheering effect. You’ll get quieter operation, and most importantly, a significantly better finish with less tear-out.

Each insert can be rotated three times to expose a new, sharp edge. They don't require finicky adjustment and setup that traditional straight-knife jointers do. You'll save valuable time and money from the start.

The 9in. x 72in. precision-ground cast-iron table is ready to surface plane, edge joint, bevel joint, and square stock.

The tables are easily adjusted by heavy-duty cast-iron handwheels and move along dovetail ways.

The easy-to-use fence has built-in stops to simplify adjustments between 45deg;, 90deg;, and 135deg;.

Additional features include a thermal protection switch, built-in mobile base, and integrated 4in. dust port.

Like all Shop Fox jointers, the W1858 comes with a 2-year warranty which covers parts and assures the unit is free from factory defects. (Consumables are not covered by the warranty.)

The W1858 manual was written by our U.S.-based Technical Documentation Department and is packed with useful information. The complete and easy-to-read manual makes it easier to assemble and maintain your jointer.

The Customer Service and Technical Support Teams are also U.S.-based. Parts for the jointer may be available online and shipped from the parts warehouse in Springfield, MO.

  1. How exactly are the directional wheels magically non-directional when installed on this jointer? I see no swivel mechanism that would allow them to change directions but the item description claims it can. That's a HUGE oversight.

    1. Thank you for reaching out. The base wheels are rounded (domed), allowing the machine to be easily steered or pivoted. This design makes it possible to angle the machine slightly and maneuver it in different directions with greater ease.

  2. Does the W1858 have the D4501 indexable spiral cutterhead?
