The SaltDogg TGSUV1B 4.4 Cubic Foot Tailgate Spreader is a simple and effective tool for residential spreading of #1 free flowing rock salt. With its compact size, hitch mount design, and auxiliary power plug adapter, the TGSUV1B makes it easy to spread with an SUV or a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton truck. It features a corrosion-resistant 4.4 cubic foot poly hopper. The hitch mount is compatible with 1-1/4in. or 2in. Class 3 or 4 receivers and can fold away for easy tailgate access. The gravity-fed spreader has a manual open/close gate and a 9in. poly spinner that can cast up to 14ft. Its 1/8 HP, 12V motor is powered via an auxiliary plug connection with a manual on/off switch.

  1. Question about salter

    Can this salter be filled and transported around on the back of the vehicle to different job sites or does it need to be filled each time? I have another salter and when I plow snow and have the salter on the back of my truck, the salt compacts and is unable to be used.

    1. it can be filled and transported as long as you close the slide door on the bottom and if the salt is dry when it is put in.

    2. I believe the manual says not to drive with anything in the hopper. This spreader goes though the bagged salt pretty quick. Im sure you wont have any problem using whats in the hopper before going to another site.

    3. The Buyers SUV Tailgate Salt Spreader item #1038751 is recommended to be used on the back of SUV's using the mounting hardware listed either for a 2" or 1 1/4" receiver and would have no problem being transported with salt.

    Wondering if there is some way factory or add on to limit the flow of salt

    1. There is an adjustment plate on the bottom of the hopper. Problem is... there is no way to adjust the flow from the inside.

    2. The unit operates from a 12 volt motor. It includes the on/off switch that you would mount inside your vehicle. When it is turned off the motor will shut off the flow of material.

  4. WHY NOT FOR SAND USE ONLY ROCK SALT

    HOW ABOUT A MIX O SALT AND SAND

    1. I use mix, but had to add a vibrator to the unit. Works great on mix with the vibrator.

    2. Sand should not be used due to the moisture rate as it can cause the spreader to clog or the spinner to stop.

    1. The motor would need to be connected to the 12 volt battery with the included wiring harness in the vehicle. It would also include a manual on/off switch you would mount inside the vehicle to control it.

  7. does it power up to the trailer plug or do u have to wire to battery

    1. Plug the wire harness into the auxiliary power outlet. The auxiliary power outlet of the vehicle should be rated at 20 amps. You will need to insure vehicles auxiliary port is able to handle the amperage needed. The wire harness comes equipped with a 15 amp fuse.
