If there is only one 15A circuit feeding your system it should work fine. It simply separates that circuit from its breaker and hence the power panel when the transfer switch is thrown so power flows from the generator only to whatever was on that breaker. If power comes back on to the power panel no current flows back to the power panel.

Will furnace transfer switch work with my boiler?
Boiler has 0.7 amp motor wired to panel box 15amp breaker and there is also small thermostat on my indirect water heater. Is there any reason the furnace transfer switch will not work with a portable generator and my boiler? Thanks.
-
TEKNUT· 11 years ago
It should work just fine as long assuming all the circuits needed are fed from the one 15A panel circuit breaker and this is a fossil fuel, not a 220 V electric heater.

Where are the knockouts located?
Instructions list 2 knockouts. One is clearly where the conduit is attached. Where is the other located?
-
TEKNUT· 11 years ago
They provide in the kit a a male, panel mount AC plug to connect portable generators or those that are not hard wired so you can connect the generator to the switch with an extension cord. This is easily installed into the switch box by the consumer.

Does this need to be mounted near your breaker panel? Can it be mounted near the oil burner?
-
JoeFromRichmond· 14 years ago
It's designed to be mounted near the breaker box, that is what the instructions assume. I was planning on installing at the oil burner, and it would have worked fine. The breaker panel install ended up being more convenient.
You must have a junction box to make the connections in, since this unit has armored cable, and is connected in circuit with wire nuts.

The manufacturer recommends the transfer switch can be easily connected at the circuit breaker panel or the furnace or at any point in between and as long as it is a 15 amp circuit.

Does this transfer switch guarantee no back-feeding into the panel?
-
JoeFromRichmond· 14 years ago
It has a three-way switch on the unit, Line-Off-Generator. When in the Off or Generator positions, the circuit is electrically and physically isolated from the rest of your electrical system.
No need to worry about frying your friendly neighborhood lineman. This unit is very safe and easy.

Would this work with 3600 Watt portable generator
I have a portable 120 V Craftsman generator rated at 3600 Watts (5300 Watts peak starting). I need to know if this Reliance Furnace Transfer Switch can be used safely with this generator for powering our household furnace as it states in the transfer switch specs that it has a Max generator running wattage of 2500 Watts? Please email, and thank you.

This circuit is used on any 15 amp 120 volt forced air furnace circuit. The amount of wattage that the furnace fan is pulling will work with your generator.

It is just a suggestion. It can be mounted a shorter or further distance from the panel, just depends on where you are mounting it and what is needed.

Does the TF151 require that the generator be bonded, or floating, or does it not matter?
1 answer-
ProductExpert11· 3 years ago
The transfer switch is compatible with both floating neutral and bonded neutral generators. The only exception is if you have a bonded neutral generator with GFCI protection on the generator receptacle, you will have nuisance tripping on the GFCI.
