  1. We have lots of rain in NW Oregon. Does it work on wet soil? And does one sharpen the blade or replace the blade?

    1. I have used it on wet soil and it has done ok. They do make replacement blades, but I don't think it has to be replaced for awhile as one reviewer stated they had theirs for years before replacing. I guess it depends on how frequently you use it.

    2. It works ok on wet soil but is definitely more work. For the blade I've had one for over 10 years and use it regularly throughout the summer and the blade is still in good shape.

  2. How hard is this to use? I saw the review from a woman but she didn't say her age. I'm a 62 year old woman but in decent shape.

    1. I am 36 and use it. I think it does require a little muscle, but it is a good workout. The hardest part is just getting it into the ground and then pushing it is usually pretty easy.

    2. The Quail Manual Kick-Type Sod Cutter/Edger is easy to use. The "kicking bar" provides a means for leverage to cut through a variety of soil conditions.

  3. Slopes/hills?

    I am trying to remove grass on a steeply sloped area. Will this tool be effective, or does it only work on flat ground? Thank you!

    1. I think you could, but I would work going downhill as opposed to uphill because it requires some efforts to kick/push it.

    2. The Quail Manual Kick-Type Sod Cutter will work on even steeply sloped areas just be sure you are cutting level with the contour of the land to ensure you get an even cut.

    1. You can get a 6" adapter directly from Quail. I haven't found them anywhere else.

  5. Do i get a sod cutting blade and an edging/trenching blade?

    my boss has one of these and it has a sod cutting blade and an edging blade, was just wondering if it came with both or do i need to order them separate? and also are there different sizes of edging blades? mainly want to use it to create natural edges around mulch beds.

    1. Mine came with the trenching blade, 7 inches deep, 1.5 inches wide. I didn't need that blade and purchased what I needed elsewhere. This very well build edger/trencher will take a blade with a 1 inch hole so you won't have an issue finding the perfect blade. If I'm right, the blade turns at 1850 rpm with the 200cc Honda engine. Great item.

    2. You would get a sod cutting blade. The one that is replaceable is a 12" blade and it is available from our parts department.

  6. will this work on uneven ground with native grasses and weeds and with mole tunnels and valleys

    1. This Sod cutter is designed to be used on a mowed even surface. Uneven ground that is not mowed and is over tunnels will result in a poor cut of sod.
