Yes. It's really easy starting as well. If you can start your lawn mower, you can start this.

Does this generator require fuel stabalizer?
-
PowerhorseExpert· 11 years ago
The Powerhorse 9000 only requires fuel stabilizer if you plan to store it long term. We recommend "exercising" the unit once a month by running it for a few minutes with a small load. If you need to store the unit long term, simply drain the gas or add fuel stabilizer. After adding stabilizer, it's necessary to add a little oil to the spark plug chamber and also remove the spark plug wire.

Yes, if you intend to keep fuel in it. One of my few complaints is no fuel tank drain or fuel guage. My other genset has a drain and therefore I can drain all the unused fuel out and run it dry.

Any fuel supply that will remain in storage and unused longer than 30 days should have stabilizer added. This includes fuels tanks on generators. Helps to prevent fuel line and carb build-up.

No it does not! It also does not have a fuel gauge on it either.
I investigated buying an hour meter that could be installed on the unit.

Where is the spark plug located for removal and cleaning?
9000 out of storage. Oil up to line, gas in won't start I believe the spark plug needs cleaning as stated in troubleshooting section of manual.
-
BingoLarry· 11 years ago
If it was not drained completely when stored, the fuel in carburetor bowl turns to varnish and basically glues the float and float valve in place. You should drain, remove the bowl and clean the float / valve. Google "small engine carburetor cleaning".

The spark plug on the Powerhorse Generator is located behind the side panel. When you are facing the front of the generator, this on the right. The spark plug is located on the side of the engine.

Will this generator run a 200 amp service in a home ?
My ? is can I operate my entire household 200 amp service box in my home the same as if I have full electrical power or will I need to run Freezers and such individually ?
-
Megapower· 13 years ago
No it wouldn't run everything, but it will run a lot. Best thing to do is have an electrician install a transfer switch at your service entrance and then you can select which breakers you want powered up via your breaker panel.
This generator will put out a total of 60 amps on the 240 volt. 30 amps on each leg. So you could power 60 amps worth of items in you breaker box.
You can always rotate needed items by turning breakers on and off as you needed them as not to exceed the output of the generator.

This generator produces 60 amps max at 120 volts(pulling power from its multiple receptacles). It produces 30 amps max at 240 volts(from its locking receptacle). It won't produce enough power to run your entire home. Click the links below to view standby generators that include 200 amp transfer switches. Consult with a licensed electrician to verify what size generator is best for your home's needs.

can this unit power a 3.5 air compresser
-
hansvdb· 13 years ago
Check the amp rating of your compressor, not volume. If no amp rating is available you can figure it out by dividing the wattage by the voltage. Then make sure it is less than the RUN rating for your generator.
Helpful?
-
PowerhorseExpert11· 13 years ago
This generator produces 30 amps at 120 or 240 volts. To ensure that it will power your compressor, it's necessary to check your compressor's amp draw at what voltage.

Can this generator support a Lincoln welder?
I have typical residential Lincoln (tombstone type) welder. I had a 6500 w Northstar Diesel generator that I had previously used to run the generator and it worked fine. But it was a commerical type generator. Will this Powerhorse support a welder...for non-frequent residential use? Mainly to repair pipe fences, minor equipment repairs,e tc?
Thanks,
dd-
Whiteshark· 13 years ago
I have had some big things plugged into it...jack hammers, compressors, etc. I can run my whole house, with everything running with no problem. full kitchen, central air, sump pump, tv's, computers, lights in all rooms. ( i actually tried to overload it with everything in my house and it still ran with no problems). You should have no problems running your welder with this generator.

PowerhorseExpert12· 13 years ago
The Powerhorse Generator is not designed to be used to support a welder. Generally, a generator that will accommodate a welder will need to provide 2 or 3 times the wattage that is required to operate the generator for proper performance.

HuntingCabinGenerator· 13 years ago
I just purchased this and it holds appx. 5 gallons of fuel. It lasted us appx. 12 hours or so on 5 gallons and we were running an air compressor, battery charger, lights, and charging phones on it. Definitely impressed!
