Yes. The power of this machine will strip old paint. Depending on it's condition it may take some time.

yes but be careful it will also feather the wood if you get too close, use caution.

It will remove only what is trying to release. If the water pressure can get under a corner of the paint and under it it might take up more paint I think you might find out that the face of the wood would release first along with the paint.

Are there provisions for cold weather storage?
Is there some way to protect the pump from freezing and cracking during the cold winter months?
Originally posted on Powerhorse Gas-Powered Pressure Washer - 2.5 GPM, 3000 PSI, 208cc-

In the owner's manual it does have long term storage instructions to protect during cold months.

It says in the manual to drain all the water and fill with anitfreeze during winter months... sounds like a good plan.

ColdasICE· 16 years ago
The amount of water in the pump itself, when not in use is negligible. Just tipping the unit would drain most of the water out. An 8" piece of old garden hose with a male connection could be used to pour any automotive anti-freeze into the pump. Anti-freeze won't hurt the casting and will keep the seals lubricated. I honestly believe that the pump could be drained 100% just by tipping it back.

there are instructions in the owners manual on how to put automotive antifreeze in the pump for winter storage. it's very simple to do. you can read the pdf file owners manual on the page advertising this washer.

Yes, the procedure that is outlined in the owners manual available in .pdf format on the bottom of the product page, is as follows.
Winter Storage
Protect your pump, hose, and gun from freezing.
Items needed: 12” piece of garden hose or equivalent, funnel and RV antifreeze (approximately
6 oz.)
1.) Follow the storage instructions listed.
2.) Disconnect spark plug cable. Make sure the engine start switch is OFF, and the fuel valve is
OFF.
3.) Attach the garden hose with funnel to the pump inlet (see illustration).
4.) Pour RV antifreeze into the funnel, pull the engine recoil until antifreeze comes out the pump
outlet.
5.) Drain all water from the high pressure hose. Depress trigger on gun and drain all water out of
gun/lance.Helpful?

where is the engine oil refilling opening?

there is a refill on both the left and right sides for easy access and it has a dipstick
Helpful?
-
ColdasICE· 16 years ago
There are 2 of them. If you called the recoil rope as the face, one is on the right rear. The other is at the left rear. Both are about 3" up from the base, but the left side fill is partially under the cylinder cooling fins and is more difficult to access. The right side is easy access. Both are black threaded twist caps with "O" ring seals. There are also 2 separate drains on the left and right side base plate.

To verify your question, are you asking about the oil fill for the engine or for the pump? Each needs to be checked and filled separately as there are different fill points for each.
For the pump there are actually three different fill points. The two lower fill caps have a dipstick built into the caps with which you can confirm the fill level. those two fill caps are down low on the pump casing that is silver colored (the caps are black plastic). One cap is located on each side of the pump near its base.
There is one engine oil fill cap that is also black plastic. It is located on the top of the engine.
The engine has oil in it from the factory. The pump does not.
You may want to do an online search for both the pump and the engine. Manuals for both are online. Hope that this wasn't more info than you needed.Helpful?

Can the engine be idled down?
If idled down, can you leave the engine running while the spray wand is not engaged and not spraying water? My last washer had to be turned completely off if not spraying for a couple of minutes, or it would damage the engine.
Thanks for your answer. John POriginally posted on Powerhorse Gas-Powered Pressure Washer - 2.5 GPM, 3000 PSI, 208cc-
ColdasICE· 16 years ago
It is best to leave this unit at full power, however, if you need more than a couple minutes of free time, I would recommend shutting it down. The engine can be idled down, but the pump does not perform well at lower speeds. The pump also has a "blow-by" to ease excessive pressure if the trigger is not pulled for a few minutes.

i did not when i moved furniture I just put the spray wand down. the cheaper models cool the pump via water, the pump is oil cooled. I would not run it for 30 minutes or longer without using the wand if that were the case i would shut the unit off, but for a few minutes at a time it is not a problem

To ensure pump life we recommended that any pressure washer not be left running for periods of over 1.5 minutes without either depressing the trigger on the spray gun or shutting down the machine.

how can i use cleaner with water spray
Does this work with chemical/detergent cleaner to wash at same time? This there a tank for cleaner or a place that would hold a tank?
Originally posted on Powerhorse Gas-Powered Pressure Washer - 2.5 GPM, 3000 PSI, 208cc-
PowerhorseExpert· 16 years ago
You would need to use the chemical nozzle to spray your wash you want to use. This is a low pressure nozzle. Then you would change it out to the other nozzle for the rinse.
The instructions for applying chemicals is listed on page 17 of the manual. This is on our website under the item number, scroll down to the PDF file and click there.

There is no tank for chemicals/cleaners/detergents. BUT...
There is a pipe nipple downstream of the pump that accepts a flexible hose (which is included with the pressure washer). On the end of this flexible hose is a small filtration unit. To use the pressure washer with chemicals, attach the hose to the pipe nipple and place other end of the hose - the one with the filtration unit - into a jar/bottle/cup containing the chemical you wish to use. Pressure through the system will "siphon" the chemical out and mix it with the water already going through, so by the time the solution sprays out of the nozzle on the tip of the wand, the water and chemical are already mixed and spraying on whatever you are cleaning.Helpful?

BobAR· 16 years ago
The unit comes with a siphon hose that you insert into a bottle of cleaning liquid.
You change the nozzle on the wand to the black low pressure dispensing nozzel.
Spray the item with the 'soap'
Change the nozzle on the wand to the pressure nozzle and wash away.

There is a suction hose with strainer for washing with chemical cleaner. There is a hose hook that can hold a tank or you can simply place the tank on the ground near the washer and place the suction hose into the tank.

How low can you adjust the pressure & maintain it

VFJ48· 16 years ago
To obtain the lowest pressure you have to set the engine throttle at the lowest setting and turn the pressure all the way down on the adjusting knob. There's not going to be a whole lot of pressure at this setting. Good for cleaning tarps, and items that theres a concern of blasting through it.
Helpful?
-
PowerhorseExpert· 16 years ago
The pressure can be adjusted to almost nothing through the use of the unloader valve on the pump. For applications where the pressure is critical, the use of an inline pressure gauge can be helpful. See link below for more details.

does this work when attach to well water
I have a well with 2.5 gpm or greater. should this preasure washer work or do I need to increase the pressure?
Powerhorse Gas-Powered Pressure Washer — 2.5 GPM, 3000 PSI, 208ccOriginally posted on Powerhorse Gas-Powered Pressure Washer - 2.5 GPM, 3000 PSI, 208cc-
PowerhorseExpert11· 14 years ago
This pressure washer can be attached to a well with a pump that produces 3 gpm since the pressure washer pump on this unit requires an inlet flow that's 20% more than the 2.5 gpm output. This pressure washer is designed for a pressurized water source such as a city water faucet which is approximately 40 psi. However, the water source pressure must not exceed 115 psi (8 bar).

Your volume of water is more critical than your water pressure. You need to be able to fill a 5 gallon bucket in about 90 seconds with the hose you will be feeding your power washer with. I ran a dedicated 3/4" line and sillcock in my garage in order to supply this machine. Seems to word great.
Helpful?
-
PowerhorseExpert13· 14 years ago
This Powerhorse Gas-Powered Pressure Washer does require positive pressure. As long as you can fill a 5 gallon in 100 seconds your well will provide enough water for this pressure washer. Accurate time keeping is essential.

Hold the trigger open while you start the machine. It starts so easily, this won't be problem. If the pressure is not released it is harder to start. You don't need a compression release for the engine, just release the pressure in the pump.

What do I do with the chemical siphon hose when I'm not using chemical? Will the unit draw air and lower the spray pressure?

JUST LEAVE IT WRAPPED UP OUT OF THE WAY..........NO YOU DO NOT LOOSE ANY PRESSURE.

no the black nozzle has to be attached to draw chemical so you can leave it hooked up just use a different nozzle

-
PowerhorseExpert11· 15 years ago
For this Powerhorse pressure washer the detergent injector only operates when you are using the detergent nozzle, so you simply use a different nozzle and leave the hose alone when not applying chemicals.
