Product Summary

This NorthStar® Portable Generator features 2700 surge watts and 2400 continuous watts. Reliable, single-phase, 100% copper-wound generator head for years of long lasting power. Runs over 2.3 hours at 1/2 load on a 1.82 quart tankful. Industrial 160cc Honda OHC engine has low Oil Alert® shutdown protection, recoil start and cast iron sleeve. NorthStar's V-mounts are designed to extend life by dampening and isolating engine vibration. V-mounts have a rubber isolation mount made with a specially formulated vibration dampening elastomer that provides optimal flexibility and stiffness. This allows NorthStar to use softer rubber, resulting in a smooth-running engine. Muffler drastically reduces engine noise level. Frame constructed from ERW hot-rolled steel tubing.

  1. Does Northern Tool sell a larger fuel tank for this model?

    It looks like a great generator, and I like the Honda engine. However, the fuel tank seems small for home backup use. Is it possible to retro-fit a larger fuel tank?

    1. At this time we do not have a larger fuel tank available for this unit. This generator is on the small side to use in a home backup situation unless you are looking to only run 1 or 2 appliances. The size and wattage output of this unit make it a great choice for camping and tailgating applications. Remember that volts x amps = watts, the running or rated wattage of your generator should always exceed your wattage requirement. See links below for a few suggestions.

    2. Check out Northern Tool item # 213800. This is an auxiliary 5 gal. gas tank with a feeder line attached to a gas tank cap that screws onto the existing factory gas tank filler. With an extra 5 gal of fuel this generator should run at least 10 to 12 hours non-stop. Since the generator has an automatic shut-down mechanism for low oil, it should run all night with no interruptions and no worry about checking the oil.

  2. Can this run senstive electronics

    1. I don't know what your definition of sensitive electronics might be, but we're used this generator to run televisions and radios with no problem. We haven't used it to run a computer since our internet service has always been interrupted every time we've had power outages. I hope this has been helpful.

    2. Yes, When powering sensitive electronics with this NorthStar generator you should first connect them to a surge protector.

  3. Does it have an on/off switch?

    Where are the outlets?
    Can I get detailed drawings sent to me Via e-mail?

    1. No real panel on this model. The outlets are on the end of the generator part. This is directly opposite the end of the recoil starter. In the picture they would be on the left end.

    2. This NorthStar Generator comes with an ignition switch lever located above the recoil start. The outlets on this generator are located directly on the generator head, in this picture they are to the left. For detailed drawings check out the manual located in the description tab under the title Content Links, drawings are on pages 8, 18, and 37-39.

  4. how do order parts for my nortern star generator (160cc) . i need muffler gard and spark arrester .

  6. Has anyone used this genset with a modern electronic house furnace?

    I tried it with an inverter genset and the furnace didn't like it at all, even with the recommended transfer switch, . The inverter does not a true neutral at ground potential so that may be the trouble. It was not a capacity problem.

    1. This generator would not work to run a house furnace. It is not designed to be used with a transfer switch. It has 2 outlets to be used directly with a cord or extension cord.

  8. can I run a 2200w 15 amp breaker hammer 120 v with it

    it wouldnt be non stop I read another review saying that all these generators split thier power in half to each circuit if this is the case i would get 1200 watts max from one plug

    1. This generator will run your breaker hammer. You would determine the wattage the hammer requires by taking the 15 amps times the 120 volts, which would give you 1800 watts. The generator at 2700 watt surge and 2400 running would handle this with no problem.
