Different size (pitch) chain requires different size wheels. This grinder should include both 1/8" thick and 3/16" thick wheels of the correct diameter to sharpen most chainsaw chain.
The instruction manual should have a chart telling you which grinding wheel to use with which chain. This information is often printed on the package that the chain came with, in the chainsaw instruction manual, or can be found on the chain manufacturer's website (oregon, STIHL, etc.)
Helpful?
It depends on the chain you are using. See Below
1/8in. vitrified grinding wheel sharpens 1/4in., 0.325in. (except 20 series) and 3/8in. (91 series only) pitch chains
3/16in. vitrified grinding wheel sharpens 0.325in. (20 and 95 series only), 3/8in. (except 91 series) and 0.404in. pitch chains
1/4in. vitrified grinding wheel sharpens 1/2in. pitch chains and sets depth gauges
Helpful?
The wheel needed will be determined by the series and pitch of your chain, attached is a explanation of what wheels are available and what size and pitch they work on.
