The long-lasting, high-end silicon carbide seals that are specially suited for heavy-duty applications such as pumping contaminated and abrasive fluids. FCD45 cast iron impeller and volute reduce vibration and wear on the mechanical seal and engine, allowing them to last longer for semi-trash operations.

  3. Will this unit pump a concrete slurry? What % solids will it handle?

    1. No, the slurry will erode the impeller to quickly. It isn't designed for a thick slurry.

    2. The NorthStar Semi-Trash Pump will work with clear water and will handle up to 3/4" solids.

  4. Can the discharge be down sized?

    I have 11/4 inch pipe running to multible sprinklers now.

    1. No, It will cause issues with the pump, too much back pressure will cause it to blow the seals.

    2. NorthStar does not recommend reducing the inlet or outlet ports. This will create back pressure which can damage the pump itself.

  5. What is the fuel capacity and how long will it run before refueling is necessary?

    1. Almost 1 gallon of fuel and with two pumps, I average between 2hrs and up to 2 1/2hrs, but never more. It depends on temperature and the amount of head pressure. I pumped water one night and it was in the low 30's and I was averaging 2 1/2hrs, but anything above that, I usually only get 2 1/4hrs out of a completely full tank.

  6. Whats the difference between a semi-trash Pump and a full trash pump

    We are looking for a trash pump for our fire department to assist residents with flooding problems. We intend to use the pump to pump out basements after flash floods. There is generally water, silt and small gravel associated with he flooding. We are looking at the Northstar 3" semi-trash pump as an economical ansewer for our problem. What are your thoughts?

    1. The size of solids the pump will handle. If you are pumping a lot of muddy dirty water, a full trash pump is your best bet for longevity.

    2. The difference between a trash and semi-trash pump is the size of solids that are able to pass through the pump. Under the key specs column on the product page the size of solids that a pump can pass will be listed. For example, this pump can move water with solids up to 3/4". Gravel, pebbles, rocks solid clumps of dirt etc would all be considered solids. To draw a comparison our 3" full trash pump item # 106130 can handle solids up to 1 1/4". A strainer can be used to limit the size of solids that are drawn into the pump.
      This item is an excellent choice for the type of job that you are describing. The Honda GX (commercial grade) engine will ensure a long life and great fuel economy. NorthStar products are made from the highest quality components on the market without the high price tag of some of the other name brands.
