  1. What kind of battery is needed for this pump? Would it run connected to a lawn mower battery? Or a car battery charger?

    I wanna have this hooked up to tank in the corner of a greenhouse connected to a 50' hose with your turbo spray gun. I'm not exactly sure what power source I need. Could I use an ATv, lawn mower, car battery , or car battery charger?

    1. You can use any 12 volt battery but car battery or deep cycle is best and with your application a solar charger to keep it charged

    2. 12V. We use a deep cycle battery like what you would use on a trolling motor.

    1. no but you can make on quickly with a two strand wire and switch and clips from any local hardware or box store.

    2. This is a replacement pump and it does not come with corded switch control. You can buy the corded switch controller at parts stores that will pair up to the pump. I just buy the opposing plug mate then I just fuse my hot side and go through a toggle switch I mount on 4 wheeler dash to start/stop pump.

    3. The NorthStar NSQ pump is designed to be wired directly to the battery. Leads are included with the pump. Directions for wiring to your battery and the type of wire required is shown in the manual provided with the pump. The pump will work with any tank that requires 2.2 GPM @ 70 PSI.

    Will this pump handle household vinegar without damage ??? For weed control??

    1. Normally I use only water, sometimes I use some homemade ammonia mixed with water, (then only water) whenever I clean the equipment after use it lasts for many years

    2. This product should not be used with vinegar. Vinegar could cause damage to the pump and void the warranty.

  5. What is the standard hose size (o.d. & i.d.) used with this pump and what is the maximum hose length I can use to spray herbicides?

    1. This part number comes with 3/8 female npt. Lots of options but 1/2 inch hose is what i use for low pressure hi volumn watering.

    2. This would use a 3/8" NPT ID inlet and outlet fitting. The maximum hose length recommended would be 15 feet.

  6. Does this come with a fuse (8 amp)?

    I have tried to determine whether or not the fuse is included. Some pictures have one and some (most) do not.

    1. Comes with 15 amp inline mini fuse- blade type.

  7. Want to add a hose reel from this site, 1/2 by 50'. Would this work with this pump, or would that cause to much friction loss?

    2. The pump could be used with a hose reel. This pump has 3/8" fittings and would need to be converted to 1/2". There will be a loss of pressure using the larger hose and the longer distance hose.

  8. Can I power the Northstar Model 2270 using a 120volt to 12volt power inverter instead of a battery?

    NorthStar demand pump 12 volt model 2270.

    1. Yes, you can use any 12V source that can handle a large amount of current on startup. A battery charger would work fine, or any other 12V source that can provide up to 5Amps or so.

    2. The Northstar pump could be used with a 120 volt to 12 volt power inverter. You would want to be sure not to exceed 8 amp draw for the pump.

  9. Is the exterior of the motor waterproof?

    As in, can equipment to which this pump is mounted be washed down without protecting the motor, or left out in the rain?

    1. This pump is not waterproof. Care and common sense should be used when cleaning it and it should not be left out in the rain.

    2. I do not believe its rated as waterproof but all parts are equipped with o rings so I wash mine down and have not ever had a problem, having said that I will not use a power sprayer directly as you could introduce water thru electrical end.

  10. how does flowrate vary with pressure?

    The spec says 2.2 gpm at 70 psi. What is the flowrate at other pressures? For example, what is the flowrate with no head pressure? Also, how does the current vary with delivery pressure? Do you have performance curves for this pump that reveal this information?

    1. I have found that if you keep the nozzles and pump paired that came on sprayer you will be just fine. I widened my 10 ft boom on one sprayer to 16 ft and I ordered four additional identical nozzles that Northstar origionally spec out and kicked up the pump to a Northstar 5.5 gpm and I held my 70 psi and flow rate. I measured the spray width to verify my 16 ft width I was after. You have to match gpm to nozzle uses and do math for flow rates and pattern then match this info to the right pump gpm and ground speed to hit rates on chemical being applied.

    2. The pump is intended for use in spraying agricultural pesticides and other non-flammable liquids. The factory settings should not be adjusted. There is not a performance curve for this pump. Contact NorthStar Product Support at 1-800-270-0810 for any questions about the appropriate use of the pump and/or optional accessories.
